Villereal gets its name from its location just outside the picturesque bastide town of Villereal, in the heart of sunny south-western France.  The 7-acre lake is a true hidden treasure with a beautiful stock of carp into the sixties.  Up to six anglers can be accommodated on a choice of nine swims, of which four are doubles and one being suitable for lesser-abled anglers.

This French carp fishing lake certainly ticks all the boxes, offering serious fishing in a secluded setting yet with an impressive array of facilities and options that are simply hard to beat;

  • Carp to over 60lb
  • A fly & pick-up option with full tackle hire
  • Food packages delivered to your swim
  • On-site bait
  • Optional accommodation (two cabins sleeping up to four people in each)
  • Full use of the adjacent communal facilities which include tennis courts, bar, restaurant and small pool

Thanks to the lake's position, these facilities do not impact on the privacy of the water or interfere with the angling, they remain out of sight but close by. You'd be very happy here as a serious angler wanting to get away from it all or as someone needing a few more comforts for your partner or family nearby. The lake can be booked exclusively if you wish.

If you don't fancy the drive from the ports, the lake is located less than half an hour from Bergerac airport and the venue offers a FREE transfer service.  With flights to and from the UK, return flights can be purchased from as little as £40. There is also a pick-up option from Bordeaux and Limoges but this would incur a charge.

"This has to be my best weeks fishing in 20 years, stunning lake and superb facilities. Martin and Rob thank you for your knowledge and hospitality, will definitely be back next year."

Mick Watson, May '17

French Carp Fishing at Villereal

The lake is fully private & secure, with a driveable path allowing you to load/unload your tackle on each swim. There are nine swims, of which four are double pegs and one peg suitable for differently-abled anglers.

The average depth of the lake is 5-7ft and whilst most of the bottom is quite uniform, you can find a variety of drop offs, plateaus and soft mud/clay areas which are hot spots for the carp. There are features in every swim including three small lily beds and a fallen tree trunk.

There is one area of bankside which is out of bounds to fish from but can be fished up to.  A couple of 'poaching spots' are also being created for those who may want to use their stalking skills.

Like most of the French carp fishing lakes in the South West of France, Villereal does have a small population of crayfish and poisson chat. Continual management means that these do not cause anglers any major issues, however it is always best to go prepared - you can find lots of information here for combatting crayfish in France. We recommend taking shrink wrap for your hookbaits.

A little more info on the swims;

Swim 1 - a single, wheelchair friendly peg and offers the option of fishing the out-of-bounds bank plus an established set of lillypads and the odd patch of light weed.

Swim 2 - a double peg which gives lots of open water options including the end of a large plateau plus some nice margin spots.

Swim 3 - a double peg, also an open water swim with access to a large plateau, a set of lillypads plus the margins.

Swim 4 - a single corner peg which offers excellent margin fishing, a big semi-submerged snag tree which is an excellent spot for picking up fish plus also has access to the end of the plateau.

Swim 5 - a double peg which offers lots of options including lillypads, margins, snags and open water fishing plus plenty of sunshine.

Swim 6 - a single peg which offers excellent margin fishing plus open water options.

Swim 7 - a double peg which has lots of open water spots including likelieslillies and the back of the plateau.

Swim 8 - a single peg which has access to a couple of sets of lillypads plus it covers the entrance to the bay.

Swim 9 - covers the secluded bay and is reserved for stalking and is a day swim only.

A 60lb Carp from Villereal

Villereal carp lake had been a private fishing lake up until recently with an already healthy stock of very decent carp. In 2014 another several 20-30lb carp were introduced and also two carp at over 50lb. Two of these carp are now over 60lb and there are several 50lb fish.

On an average week you can expect to see plenty of mid to high 20lb'ers, a good selection of 30lb and 40lb carp and perhaps even a 50 or 60lb'er.

The lake also has a few bream and some lovely black bass to around 4lb 8oz.
