Like your lakes big, wild and rewarding?

Brocard Large is situated within picturesque woodlands in the Champagne region of France, created and run by the prominent fish farming Bachelier family. The complex consists of 2 lakes, Brocard Large and Small.

The larger of the two Brocard Lakes is 39 acres, picturesque and abundant with wildlife. It holds a good stock of carp to over 50lb and 15 sizeable catfish and you have the choice of several double swims and one that can be booked as a single or a double.

If you are looking for a serious water that contains a large average size of carp in natural surroundings, then this could be the one for you - carp fishing France in beautiful surroundings.

Swims are booked in advance at Brocard so you'll need to decide which swim you'd like when you book.  If you can't decide give us a call - we'll be happy to help.

"The fish in this lake are immaculate. Was a pleasure to book through Angling Lines and will be using your services again."

Daniel Eldridge, May '17

"There's no hustle and bustle at Brocard - it is big, peaceful and excellently run."
Andrew Gilbert, July '17

Carp fishing France at Brocard Large

This lake is relatively shallow and the bed is mainly made up of clay with a covering of silt.  The average depth is around 1m and fairly even and the swims have good vehicle access via a gravel path.

There are over-hanging trees and reed-lined margins. Mature trees hang down into the water along the forest swims creating a natural looking lake and the old branches that have fallen have been left beneath the canopy creating sanctuary areas.

This lake is prone to weed in the summer months (the amount dependent on the weather). Although a management programme is in place for this, if you are not confident fishing a lake with weed present then this venue is not for you later in the season. There are also some poisson chat present, a species found in many carp lakes across the country. You can find tips for avoiding poisson chat over on the blog here.

All swims are doubles, with the exception of swim 7 which can be booked as a double or single swim.

Swim 5 is one of the larger double swims on the north end of the lake.

Swim 6 is another large double swim located to the right of the island at around 80-100m. It's the deepest part of the lake as it is located close to the sluice. This is where the old river bed leaves the lake - it lies close to the bank and is fairly easy to find.

Between pegs 6 and 7 lies a small island.

Swim 7 is located to the left side of the island which is a fairly simple cast.  There's open water to the front. This swim can be booked as a single or a double swim.

Swim 8 has open water out to the front. Whilst there is plenty of water to fish, this is one of the smallest swims on the lake and more of a squeeze if you both have lots of gear (usually one bivvy will need to be set up further back).

Swims 9 and 10  are both large doubles and have large gravelled platforms built out into the water. Located on the forest side of the lake, there are marginal snags where the trees have fallen in.

Swim 11 is at the bottom end of the lake, which gives you the southern margin to fish to.

Swim 12 is the first swim you come to when you reach the lake. This is situated in the shallowest end of the lake, with plenty of open water directly in front of you and reed beds surrounding.

Depending on how you prefer to fish, i.e with or without a bait boat, we suggest that swims 5, 6, 7, 9 & 12 are easy casting areas whereas swims 7, 10 and 11 have some overhanging foliage which means you may find it more difficult to cast, in this case a bait boat would be advantageous.

Here's some advice on swim choice at Brocard Large from one of our bloggers, Andy Gilbert....

'Swim six has the island within easy casting range which will always be good for bites, there is also deeper water in six than anywhere else on the lake.  Swim twelve is also a good one for the cast orientated carper, it has a tree lined margin to die for and can do a serious amount of fish.  These would be my picks for a future trip to Brocard Large, swim five also looks good for a casting angler as does swim seven, although I think overhead obstructions would limit seven.  In swim nine you will have no trouble casting but again in swim ten it's not currently possible due to overhead branches.  I must be honest and say that I wouldn't fish nine and ten again whilst being reliant on casting, they really work as bait boat swims in my opinion.'

A 46lb Carp from Brocard Large

Brocard Large is very well stocked with over 500 carp, at least 50% are over 30lb and approximately 150 are over 40lb.

In addition there's a number of good grass carp which go to mid 30's which do the essential lake house-keeping. Pike also inhabit the lake to keep the levels of smaller fish down.

Brocard Large holds more 40's and 50's but is slightly more difficult than its smaller counterpart, Brocard Small. During an average week you could expect to see a few 40's and a couple of 50's on the bank. Proper carp fishing France.

On the site there's a small cabin with a table and chairs and this is where you'll meet Franck the bailiff at the start of your week.  He will run through the rules and also update you on how the lake has been fishing.

There is also a second cabin on site with shower/toilet facilities. It is modern, clean and based between the two Brocard lakes.  It is worth noting that these facilities can be quite a walk if you have chosen the furthest swims.

There are charging points for phones and batteries etc and Franck will turn the generator on for you between the hours of 9-5pm Tuesday-Friday. The lights in the facilities and hot water are on 24/7.

There is no fridge/freezer at this lake. Please remember to bring your adaptors if you wish to charge anything.
