Overview

Fishing holidays at Golden Oak

Golden Oak is situated in the heart of rural France, where picturesque historical villages nestle in the rolling hills of the unspoilt countryside. If this starts to conjure up an image of a beautiful lake in a tranquil setting, then you are definitely starting to get the picture. It's a perfect location for families and couples as well as groups of up to 4 anglers, all available to book on an exclusive basis.

The 5 acre lake forms a gentle curve, which seems to disappear into the mature wood which surrounds the far end. The lakeside accommodation is spacious and immaculate, with en-suite facilities in each of its 3 bedrooms and the added bonus of an above ground swimming pool which will be great for the kids. There's a full home-cooked meal package too, which will satisfy the hungriest of mouths.

Almost everything an angler would need is available to either hire or buy on site... from double bivvies and bed chairs to rods and reels and everything in between. The 6 hour car journey from the French ports suddenly seems a lot closer when anglers know they can travel light. Booking a stay at Golden Oak means that 4 anglers can now think about taking a fishing holiday in France in just one saloon car and all that you need to pack is end tackle and a change of clothes.

Or why not forget about the car, the petrol and the hassle and just fly in? If you are lucky enough to live near an airport then the family could be splashing about in the pool and you could have 3 rods in the water just a few short hours after leaving home.

The Carp Lake

Golden Oak is a beautiful, unspoilt water covering 5 acres which has been in the same family for the last 45 years and has only been lightly fished in this time. In the main part of the lake the depth varies between 2m and 3m, with its far end shallowing to about 0.5m.

There are some crayfish present which you may come across if you fish the shallows, but often the large carp will be in the same area as crayfish are one of their favourite treats!  There are no poisson chat or other problem species.

The original feeder river runs through the centre and the rock/gravel bed can still be seen.

As well as the river feed there are several springs that contribute to keeping the water fresh and full of oxygen giving ideal growing conditions for carp.

The Carp

The lake was re-stocked 3 years ago when additional mirrors were introduced to supplement the existing stock to create a really good head of carp to mid 40’s. 

Then in February 2011 the lake was netted and additional carp added as part of the on-going fishery management plan.  Well over 100 carp in the 10 to 12lb bracket were removed, along with ½ tonne of roach, pike and perch. 

All the carp over 20lb were all returned to the lake... and the two biggest carp weighed 39lb 11oz and 45lb 8oz.  30 new carp were then stocked, all between 20 and 31lbs.

In August 2011 the lake record was set with a 49.06 mirror known as The Boss. 

The Facilities

The gite is a traditional stone barn conversion which retains many original features but includes all of the comforts you would expect from a high class conversion.

Exposed stonework, oak beams and a wood burning stove all rub shoulders with soft colourful rugs and tasteful furnishings. There's also an English TV & DVD player.

The gite sleeps 7 people in comfort in 3 generous sized bedrooms, one of which is on the ground floor. All have ensuites with double size showers, toilet, hand basin and dressing room.

• Bedroom 1 is on the ground floor and has a double bed. This is suitable for wheelchair users with partial mobility and the owners can supply ramps for the front entrance if needed.

• Bedroom 2 is on the 1st floor, overlooking the lake, and has a king size bed.

• Bedroom 3 is also on the 1st floor. It has a double and a single bed. If you prefer it is possible to have 3 single beds in this room

Bed linen and towels are provided, but please bring your own pool towels.  Parking is conveniently situated next to the gite, which is under cover.

The kitchen is fitted with all the usual equipment and laundry facilities are available on request.

The lounge/dining area has double doors leading onto the terrace, which overlooks the lawn and lake, making it the perfect place for breakfast, a BBQ, or just an aperitif!  

Garden furniture is provided and to help you keep you cool, and the kids amused, there's a large plunge pool.

Meals

Golden Oak provides an excellent food package which includes breakfast and evening meals.

Breakfasts are either bought to your swim as a generously filled egg, bacon & sausage baguette with a large mug of tea or coffee... or served in the gite as a breakfast platter with mushrooms, tomatoes and French bread.

Evening meals are served on the terrace or in the gite.

Menus can be arranged at the beginning of your stay so you can take advantage of the wonderful and varied produce. Whatever you choose you can be assured of fresh, tasty home cooked food prepared just for you. 

Lunches and snacks are available at an extra cost.   

Please note; if you book the food package you will be asked to pay a 10% deposit to Angling Lines and the balance to the lake in Euros when you arrive. Please note that due to fluctuations in the exchange rate the balance you pay when you arrive may not equate exactly to the remaining 90% in £’s sterling – it may be slightly more or less due to a change in the exchange rate.

Carp Bait

Carp Tackle Hire

You can hire a full set of tackle for a cost of 150€ per person per week. The set consists of;

• 2 man bivvy
• Bed chair
• Rods
• Reels
• Bite Alarms
• Rod pod

Baits and other accessories are also available on site but you will need to bring your own end tackle and weigh scales.

These items do need to be reserved in advance.  To reserve please contact the owner direct. The owners Email address & phone number can be found on the directions sheet which will be sent to you when your holiday has been paid for in full.

Return visits;

Visit this lake 2 (or more) times in the same calendar year & get a 10% discount on the return visits!

We have lots of customers who make more than one trip with us and we want to reward that loyalty. Certain venues have agreed to participate in a discount scheme for return trips. This lake is one of those taking part… so book a return trip and get your 10% discount!

Conditions:

• Applies to fishing only & excludes accommodation (if normally booked separately), food, bait etc.
• Applies to ferry crossing for vehicle only (excludes trailers, cabins etc)
• Members of a group booking who have not visited twice will not be eligible for the discount
