Overview

Mas Bas is an 80 acre farm estate with two lakes specialising in exclusive carp fishing holidays that have facilities for all the family to enjoy, whether or not they fish. It’s set in the heart of rural south west France and the privacy of the site offers tranquil family carp fishing holidays.

Excellent accommodation, swimming pool, specimen carp fishing - you can’t help but fall in love with this venue.

Mas Bas benefits from the lovely sunny climate of southern France... but if you don’t fancy the drive from the UK why not consider flying? The nearest airport, Bergerac, is around 1 hour away and we’ve seen flights as low as £60 return. You can hire all your tackle & buy bait on-site so it’s a real option.

This was not just a fishing holiday, this was a relaxing holiday for us as a couple, and my wife was really pleased with Mas Bas (phew!) and has absolutely fallen in love with the place and surrounding area. The accommodation was fantastic in Willow cottage - dish washer, washing machine, fully equipped kitchen & very comfortable beds.  The outside gazebo made an excellent base to sit and wait for fish while eating and drinking.  It has a power point and two lights, one over the fishing platform.  Excellent idea Gilles!

The Carp Lake

The 2 lakes on the complex (Main Lake & Lotus Lake) are 35 years old and still contain some of the original stock fish.  Lotus is the smaller of the two lakes but still contains around 110 carp to around 43lb.

It is usually sold exclusively with Willow cottage but depending on bookings, it may also be fished by Lotus cottage which enjoys garden frontage on to both lakes.  Lotus lake is generally only fished by 1 or 2 anglers.

The lake has snags and fallen trees furthest away from the accommodation and generally has some Lotus lilies in the far margins. The outlet of the stream running through both lakes is to the rear of Willow cottage, so the fish are also attracted close in here. This really is the most attractive location to enjoy your fishing holidays.

The eating area of Willow cottage sits on the side of this lake and is the main swim, but there are plenty of other options. 

IMPORTANT NOTE; A French fishing licence is required at this venue. The cost is 30 euros per angler and it can be purchased on arrival.

The Carp

The pretty Lotus Lake is the smaller of the 2 lakes on the complex and holds around 110 carp up to 43lb.

There are at least 2 x 40’s, 6 x 30's, with the rest mainly good twenties and a few doubles.

The lake also offers, Koi, tench, zander, pike, bream and black bass.

Each year the owner generally introduces a few  extra carp to supplement the existing stock. This makes Lotus very well stocked for its size.  An aerator keeps oxygen levels up in the summer to encourage feeding.

Mas Bas cannot be regarded as a “runs” water, you’ll need to apply yourself to catch the fish… but when you’re fishing for carp in the 40’s it’s definitely worth the effort.

Winter 2011 should see a planned netting on Lotus lake to remove some of the bream and smaller grass carp.  The Grass Carp have done a great job in managing any weed in the lake this year. 

The Facilities

Mas Bas was formally a restaurant and leisure lake and it offers comfortably furnished lakeside houses, all of which have T.V. and videos, microwave cookers, gas cookers, fridges, dishwashers, garden furniture, private terraces with BBQ's. Bed linen & towels are also included.

There are two swimming pools, badminton court, boules area and bicycles all for the use of all guests. 

Willow Cottage: 

The well equipped kitchen and dining area leads through to the double bedroom with ensuite bathroom, which has a shower;, handbasin and w.c. and a door leading through to the laundry room.

Open stairs out of the kitchen go up to a twin bedroom and the comfortable sitting room with sofa and chairs.

A narrow staircase leads up to a mezzanine level with further sleeping facilities for up to three people.

Outside in front of the house is a terrace is shaded by large weeping willows, with table chairs and BBQ. French windows from the sitting room open out onto a small balcony giving access to a second terrace area to the rear of the house which over looks the Lotus lake and thus offers an excellent & private fishing swim.

A further 25m from the house is the 11x 5m swimming pool which is shared with the guests from Lotus Cottage.

As well as the facilities on site, there is also horse riding and tennis 4kms away. The area is rich in historical interest with neighbouring villages dating back to the 12th century; the main towns of Agen and Villeneuve-sur-Lot (30 mins away) provide this exceptionally tranquil area with hustle and bustle, colourful markets, good shopping and excellent restaurants. The closest villages, Beauville and Laroque have garages, banks, chemists, bakers and very reasonably priced, good country restaurants.

Important note; Guests are asked to pay a security deposit on arrival which is fully refunded when the cottage is left clean & tidy with no breakages.  Logs are available for the wood burning stove.  If you require the central heating on an additional charge is payable for each cottage.
