Overview

Mas Bas is an 80 acre farm estate with two lakes specialising in exclusive carp fishing holidays that have facilities for all the family to enjoy, whether or not they fish. It’s set in the heart of rural south west France and the privacy of the site offers tranquil family holidays with the added bonus of excellent carp fishing.

Excellent accommodation, swimming pool, specimen carp fishing - you can’t help but fall in love with this venue.

Mas Bas benefits from the lovely sunny climate of southern France... but if you don’t fancy the drive from the UK why not consider flying? The nearest airport, Bergerac, is around 1 hour away and we’ve seen flights as low as £60 return. You can hire all your tackle & buy bait on-site so it’s a real option. See below for more details.

The facilities were fantastic! A great house with loads of space although we spent all our time outside as the terrace and view of the lake are just amazing. The pool was great and right next to the lake. There is also a great BBQ which we cooked 90% of our meals on. It really was perfect for a family holiday. I have been to France fishing for a number of years and have always been a bit wary about trying to combine a family holiday with fishing but the whole family enjoyed every minute at Mas Bas so much that we only went out once in 14 days!  All the family caught some great carp with my son William landing a 42lb’er  Tom had a superb 30 common & my wife Paula had a 32lb’er on her birthday.

The Carp Lake

The 2 lakes on the complex (Main Lake & Lotus Lake) are 35 years old and still contain some of the original stock fish.  The Main Lake's largest carp, depending on the season, varies from 49 to 55lb. With a total of around 210 carp in the Main Lake there are plenty of carp to aim at and catch rates are good.

Depths vary from 2m to as little as ½m in the shallows where carp can be regularly seen cruising and foraging for food amongst the lily pads and stalking carp in these areas is very popular with regular visitors.  The lake offers plenty of margins and features for your fishing holidays.

Because the accommodation is so close to the lake the house swims get fished most regularly.  However, bivvies can be put further around the lake as long as the privacy of the garden area for both houses is respected.  Be different, fish well and you’ll get the rewards. 

A maximum of 4 anglers in total can be accommodated on the Main Lake.

IMPORTANT NOTE; A French fishing licence is required at this venue. The cost is 30 euros per angler and it can be purchased on arrival.

The Carp

The Main Lake is the larger of the 2 lakes on the complex and this stunning lake has around 210 hard fighting carp up to mid 50's

Stock includes two 50's, around 8 x 40's and lots of 30's, with the bulk being mid 20's.

The lake also has pike to 1.2m long, Zander to 15lb and Black Bass to 10lb.  Tench, roach, bream and perch are also present.

Each year the owner adds a few more carp as part of his ongoing management programme.

Mas Bas cannot be regarded as a “runs” water and you’ll need to apply yourself to catch the fish… but when you’re fishing for fish to mid 50's it’s definitely worth the effort.

The Facilities

Mas Bas was formally a restaurant and leisure lake and it offers comfortably furnished lakeside houses, all of which have T.V. and videos, microwave cookers, gas cookers, fridges, dishwashers, garden furniture, private terraces with BBQ's. Bed linen & towels are also included.

There are two swimming pools, badminton court, boules area and bicycles all for the use of all guests. 

Lake House;

A sheltered lakeside terrace leads into a large well equipped American kitchen/dining area with terracotta tiled floor.  French windows lead out onto a large balcony with tables and chairs, flower tubs etc.

The sitting room area has a wood burning stove, stereo and comfy sofas. Large glazed doors lead out to the front of the house. Stairs from the sitting room lead up to the shower room with w.c. and vanity unit, a bathroom with w.c. and vanity unit, two double bedrooms (both with lake views) and a twin bedded room.

A staircase leads down from the patio to a basement room with an additional shower room with w.c. and hand basin.  A room off provides the laundry and cleaning facilities, washer, dryer etc. and storage area.

Lake House has its own private swimming pool and table tennis area.

Lotus Cottage;

A large half covered lakeside terrace with table and chairs gives access to the main lake.

The Lotus Cottage has its amenities just on the ground floor and as you enter from the terrace you arrive into a kitchen/dining area which is well equipped and includes a dishwasher.  

There are 2 bedrooms, one double and one twin bedded room.  These lead off the kitchen/diner, as does the shower room with hand basin, w.c. and laundry area with washing machine.

General;

As well as the facilities on site, there's also horse riding and tennis 4km away.

The area is rich in historical interest with neighbouring villages dating back to the 12th century; the main towns of Agen and Villeneuve-sur-Lot (30 mins away) provide this exceptionally tranquil area with hustle and bustle, colourful markets, good shopping and excellent restaurants.

The closest villages, Beauville and Laroque, have garages, banks, chemists, bakers and very good but reasonably priced country restaurants.

Important note; Guests are asked to pay a security deposit on arrival which is fully refunded when the cottage is left clean & tidy with no breakages.  Logs are available for the wood burning stove.  If you require the central heating on an additional charge is payable for each cottage.
