Weather at Monument

Overview

Monument is an established quality carp lake located in Brittany with an excellent stock of carp running to high 40's.  The beautiful 5 acre lake is very picturesque with many anglers commenting that the photo's just don't do it justice.  A long central island is within easy casting distance of all swims and provides plenty of carpy spots to fish to but without feeling crowded out by other anglers.  There’s also a smaller ‘fun lake’ stuffed with carp to around 10lb - great fun if you get bored!

The owners offer an excellent optional food package, so this really is a perfect venue for a group of up to 5 friends to enjoy some excellent fishing but still have a great social.  Anglers of all abilities will enjoy Monument, whether it's your first trip carp fishing in France or you're a seasoned experienced traveller looking for that fish of a lifetime.

Monument gets its name from the group of large boulders which were pulled out of the lake when it was built and then laid out as a mini Stonehenge.  The locals say the original French owner used to sit with his friends, a glass of the local vino and chat the afternoons away admiring the beautiful view in the peaceful surroundings.

The Carp Lake

The mature lake has depths ranging from 2' to 12' and because it's fed from underground springs the water level drops very little in even the driest years.  

There’s a long island running down the centre that can be fished from all the swims; it effectively splits the lake into 2 giving anglers privacy and lots of carpy spots to fish to. 

Other features are 2 large boulders on one side of the lake and an expanding lily bed... so there’s plenty to think about as to where to place your baits.

The Carp

Monument was stocked in 2007 with 120 carp ranging from 18 to 36lb, a 65/35 split of mirrors and commons. 

The lake now contains at least 6 known 40’s, a very good head of 30’s and the average carp caught in 2011 was 25lb... a very good average.  

The lake record was set in 2011 with a 46lb mirror. 

There are 7 cats in the carp lake at around 35lb, plus another 4 of similar size and 2 sturgeon, Ronny and Reggie (who will give you the fight of your life), in the fun lake.

The fun lake has around 100 small carp in the 10lb bracket which literally do provide loads of fun if you’re looking for a bit of entertainment. 

The Facilities

There’s a log cabin which houses the shower and the anglers kitchen (gas cooker, 2 gas hobs, utensils, sink and hot water) and a second smaller cabin for the toilet.

Monument's remote location means that getting mains electricity laid on would be prohibitively expensive so power is provided by a generator.

The owners, Mark & Angela Walsh, live a mile away and are always available for help and advice.  They're also happy to charge bait boat batteries and store frozen bait in their freezers.

Meals

This venue offers an excellent food package consisting of a breakfast baguette and evening meal, both delivered to your swim.

The food package price is £120

Please note; if you book the food package you will be asked to pay a 10% deposit to Angling Lines and the balance to the lake in Euros when you arrive. Please note that due to fluctuations in the exchange rate the balance you pay when you arrive may not equate exactly to the remaining 90% in £’s sterling – it may be slightly more or less due to a change in the exchange rate.

Carp Bait

To order bait please contact the owner direct. The owners Email address & phone number can be found on the directions sheet which will be made available to you in your Customer Area on our website when your holiday has been paid for in full.  Please order at least 4 weeks in advance. You pay the owner in Euros when you arrive.

• Carp Pellet... 12€ / 5kg
• Prepared parti-blend particle... 12€ / 5kg
• Prepared Hemp... 12€ / 5kg

Please note; Bait orders are made directly between you and the lake owner.  We (Angling Lines) cannot be held responsible for any problems that may subsequently arise.  If you order bait to be waiting for you when you arrive we strongly recommend you telephone or Email the owner a few days before your arrival to make sure it will be there for you.  In 99% of cases this will just be purely precautionary, but bait is such an important part of your holiday that it’s only sensible to take every step to avoid problems.

Bivvies & bedchairs;

• 1 man bivvie... 30€ a week
• Bedchairs... 20€ a week

Conditions:

• Applies to fishing and a Dover - Calais ferry crossing.  Other crossings will be discounted but it may not be possible to offer a 50% discount on the ferry crossing
