Weather at Watersmeet

Overview

Watersmeet has become a firm favourite with our customers who are looking for excellent accommodation on the banks of a private carp lake. This really is a peaceful, secure location … and the fishing isn’t bad either!

Watersmeet is a beautiful mature venue consisting of two lakes - one specialist carp lake and one smaller coarse lake. It is superb for a family, or a small group of up to 4 anglers, who are seeking a quality fishing holiday in tranquil surroundings with the added bonus of excellent lakeside accommodation in the form of a lovely renovated cottage which sleeps up to 6. Watersmeet is situated in NW France, in the Mayenne region, amongst lovely countryside near the village of Larchamp. Approximate driving time from the port of Caen is 1½ hours.

The Carp Lake

The carp lake is 2½ acres with an average depth of 1½m and a deepest point of 4m.

It’s a drainable, spring fed lake with a clay/silt base, lily pads and overhanging branches which are present on the near and far side margins.

The coarse lake is one acre in size with an average depth of 1m.

Again it is a drainable spring fed lake with a silty substrata and overhanging branches. This lake is heavily stocked with small carp of 2 to 3lb (including a few 20lb+ surprises!), roach and rudd.

The Carp

The lake was first stocked in Feb '04 with just under a ton of carp averaging 25lb, including koi to 20lb and grass carp to 25lb.

A further stocking took place in Dec '05 with 6 x 30lb+ commons... then more in Dec '08 when over ½ of a ton of carp were stocked with an average weight of 28lb, including 7 x 30lb+.  All these carp were of the fast growing Royal Strain (the same as the previous stock).

The most recent stocking took place in Nov '11 when 40 carp were added with just 2 under 20lb (both around 18lb), at least 6 good 30's, plus a few more around the 30 mark & also one of 40lb+. The rest were all good 20's. 

So the main lake now holds numerous 20’s, a good head of 30’s and at least 2 known 40’s.

The Facilities

The house sleeps 6 and is sited just 30 metres from the lake. It has recently been fully renovated and offers oil fired central heating, bathroom, kitchen, new double glazing and all new furniture. The ground floor has a kitchen which overlooks both lakes and is well equipped with a large fridge/freezer, gas hob, electric oven/grill, stainless steel sink, pots, pans... and as an added bonus a TV & DVD player, handy for mum when she’s doing the dreaded dishes and the kid’s for DVD’s when dads watching the footy if he’s too tired from fishing!

The spacious lounge accommodates a modern large screen TV & digital Sky+ box, ipod docking station, log fireplace, one 3 seater & one 2 seater sofas and one armchair. The lounge overlooks the main lake and double doors open up to the terrace and BBQ area. A wet gear area, toilet and bait freezer are also present downstairs.  Wi-Fi internet access is also available free of charge at Watersmeet.

The recently constructed conservatory is a lovely place to enjoy the late evening sun and enjoy a meal. It has a dining table and chairs for 6 people.

The first floor has 3 bedrooms – Bedroom 1 with a double bed overlooking the main lake, Bedroom 2 with two single beds, Bedroom 3 with two single beds overlooking the coarse lake.

PLEASE NOTE; Access to bedroom 1 is through bedroom 2 – see accommodation photos.

Guests are invited to bring their own bed linen and towels, although duvets and pillows are provided.

The bathroom is fitted with a bath, shower cubicle and wash basin and there is also a separate upstairs toilet.

Just 5m from the lake the owners have built a superb sheltered BBQ for guests use - this makes for a great social atmosphere on warm evenings. Two picnic tables are also sited by the lakeside.

There are also 3 bikes you can hire whilst you are here. If you’d like to reserve one please ring the lake beforehand (details are in the pack we send out when you book).

Local facilities are within easy reach at the village which is 2 miles away. There's a baker, mini-market, bar/tobacconist and a restaurant. The nearest big supermarket is 10 miles away in the town of Ernée.

Bike Hire;

There are 3 bikes for hire at Watersmeet.  The cost is £20 per week each (the local hire shop is charging 14€ per day!). 

Please note; helmets are not provided & the owners cannot accept responsibility for any accidents.

There is a £50 security deposit per group which will need to be paid at the time of hire (£’s OK).
