Work Party March 2019 - part 2

The second week of the Work party and Daz and Byron had returned to England so it was just Sander, Barry and Yve.

We put the awning on the front of the chalet as in the summer months the sun shines onto the veranda making it uncomfortable to dine in comfort in the evenings. This should keep the blazing sun out of peoples eyes nicely.

We started on the big clear up over at the inlet end of the lake where the storms in early March had brought down some of the trees. By cutting off the trunks near to the base we managed to get 6 of the root systems back down into their craters which improved the appearance of the area no end. Two of the trunks we have used sections of to build the base of a bridge over the inlet and topped it with planks. Some of the trunks have been cut into shorter lengths and used to edge a defined footpath from the bridge to the trail towards swim 4. The rest will eventually be chopped up for firewood for our wood burners at home and at the lakeside chalet.

We are very grateful to Sander, Daz and Byron for their help in making the improvements to our lake.

Work Party March 2019 catch report

Daz, Byron and Sander helped us out in March, building bridges and jetty's and tidying up the site. They fished some nights and landed 21 fish between them (Sander was with us for 2 weeks and the others only for 1).

There are only a few photos as Daz doesn't bother taking photos and Byron only took 2 fish photos.

Work party March 2019 - part 1

The first week of the March work party saw a lot of wood work, wet weather early in the week but sunny and dry for the second half. Frosty mornings still though.

The new chalet swim had a wooden sided gravel path built to a wooden platform, swim 6 had a jetty built on the right hand side of the swim to enable anglers to respond better when fish kite to the right, and swim 3 has a new bridge to the spit so that anglers do not have to trample through the undergrowth if their fish kites to the left and toward the inlet area.

Fish stocking

Yet again, our fish farmer turned up without an appointment. He and his assistant delivered 45 kilograms of common carp this afternoon. Eleven beautiful bars of gold have a new home at Barrington's with a couple of them being 20lb'ers. Not the best photos but it was all a bit of a rush to get them out of the tank and into the lake.

Week 28 20/10 - 26/10/2018

Daniel and Leanne stayed in the chalet Saturday afternoon to Friday morning. Daniel fished from the Jetty, utilising waders as the level was low due to the long, hot, very dry summer and landed 6 carp to 29lb. The 6th came on the last morning whilst packing up.

During their stay they visited McArthurGlen Designer Retail Village at Troyes and the Mercier Champagne house in Epernay. The weather started warm and sunny but became cooler towards the end of the week.

Week 27 29/9/ - 6/10/2018

This week saw Ivo and Gert visit for the first time from The Netherlands and Daz and Byron (work party stalwarts). Ivo and Gert started the week in swim 2 and then moved to swims 5 and 6 for the second half. Byron had swim 7 and fished from the island and Daz started in swim 5 and then moved to swim 3.

There were 17 carp out this week with a personal best common for Daz of 31lb12oz and a personal best for Gert of a 17kg (37lb6oz) common. There were 7 20lb'ers to 29lb8oz and 5 30's to 37lb6oz.

We had a lot of fun this week and during meal times there was advice offered to Ivo and Gert from us and also from Daz and Byron.
