Week 27 29/9/ - 6/10/2018

This week saw Ivo and Gert visit for the first time from The Netherlands and Daz and Byron (work party stalwarts). Ivo and Gert started the week in swim 2 and then moved to swims 5 and 6 for the second half. Byron had swim 7 and fished from the island and Daz started in swim 5 and then moved to swim 3.

There were 17 carp out this week with a personal best common for Daz of 31lb12oz and a personal best for Gert of a 17kg (37lb6oz) common. There were 7 20lb'ers to 29lb8oz and 5 30's to 37lb6oz.

We had a lot of fun this week and during meal times there was advice offered to Ivo and Gert from us and also from Daz and Byron.

Week 26 22/9-29/9/2018

Week 26 saw Paul and Beccy return to Barrington's for their third year running. We celebrated Beccy's birthday while they were there with a BBQ and some champagne.

Paul fished from swim 2 and landed 10 carp to 30lb5oz and lost 2. They all put up a good fight and swam away vigorously when they were returned.

Oxygen Levels at the Lake

13.9.18 - We are incredibly sad to report an oxygen crash on the lake 10 days ago has resulted in a total of 32 carp of varying sizes dying alongside a lot of the silver fish population which were the first to go. The remaining stock of carp in the lake is still around 120+.

This was due, we believe, to the abnormally long hot summer which has reduced water levels alongside a bloom of small silver fish in the lake. Aerators were placed on the lake immediately and will continue to be there for the next few weeks. Barry can already see increased activity on the lake.

The deaths stopped several days ago so we can report that this is the limit of the damage.

Barry quite rightly has insisted that the carp have some time to recover so the next couple of groups were found alternatives to allow this.

Longer term the plan is to obtain additional carp for the lake over the winter (once the temperatures are low enough to allow for a safe stocking), which will put the levels back to where they were previously.

Week 21 18/8-25/8/2018

The summer holidays continued with a big group of friends and children this week. Laurence and his son Luke, Ralph and his daughter Lucie, Simon and his two sons Finn and Jude along with their friends Matt and Paul. All of the swims were fished during the week.

The children had fun in the woods around the lake with their foam bullet guns and water pistols - we are still finding the bullets!! On the Tuesday the group visited a nearby theme park - Nigloland and returned with cuddly toys and foam swords.

Despite renting the chalet, all of the children slept in the bivvies and assisted in the catching of the fish.

28 carp were recorded in the catch report the biggest being a 35lb mirror for Matt.

Week 18 - 28/7-4/8/2018

Bob and his 13 year old son Oscar returned this year for the week. They fished from swim 2 and the fishing was really for Oscar's benefit although he wasn't very good at getting up in the night when there were fish on. They landed 7 carp to 33lb but lost another 10.

The weather was extremely hot and the majority of the fish came at night when it was cooler.

Week 17 21/7-28/7/2018

We had a family group from Belgium stay in the chalet as a lake exclusive this week. Erik and his son Robbe fished swim 2 , Patrick in swim 3 and Erik's brother in law in swim 7. The ladies didn't fish.

Patrick caught a 21kg mirror (46lb 4oz) which is the current lake record along with a 12 kg mirror and 2 commons - 6kg & 7kg. Robbe landed a 15kg grass carp which escaped from the cradle before photos were taken, a 15kg mirror, an 8kg mirror and 2 commons - 5kg & 6kg. Erik caught his new personal best of 17kg.

The weather was oppressively hot and as the fish are only coming out at night or early morning the family visited Lac du Der every day to swim and have lunch.

Week 15 7/7-14/7/2018

Mike and Dan walked around the lake with us and decided to fish from swim 3. They had brought Cell with them which they use successfully at their home waters but is not a successful bait here. They didn't have a touch on Saturday night so decided to try the venue's own bait and started catching on Sunday night/Monday morning. Between them they landed 13 carp to 37lb 4oz which was Dan's new personal best. Dan had a 25lb Grass Carp and on the last morning Mike had a 31lb mirror. They had brought a trophy with them for the most weight caught in the week and decided that it was a draw this time.

All of the fish came between 8pm and 10am when it is coolest except one on Wednesday afternoon which was an overcast day and only 20 degrees. It was another hot week here.

Our friends Daz and Julie came on Sunday with another grocery delivery for us to restock our freezer and larder with UK sausages, bacon, baked beans etc. Daz is one of our regular helpers and his bivvy and bedchair live in our shed usually. Daz fished swim 5 which is his favourite and landed a catfish, a 25lb common, a stockie and 2 mirrors - 35lb4oz on Friday morning and a 34lb 12oz on Saturday morning.

Tuesday morning we were joined by a Dutch group who had rented the Chalet for a short week - Anoop, his girlfriend Samantha, her friend Alyssa and his friend Erwin. Anoop and Samantha fished swim 7 and had a catfish and on Saturday morning he had a 20lb common. Erwin fished swim 1 and landed a 23lb mirror on Wednesday morning.

On the night that England played Croatia, we had a late dinner and all sat in the dining room and watched the match on the temporary TV that we had set up just for the World Cup. It was a noisy evening with highs and lows and the Dutch group in the Chalet said that they had learnt some new words!

Week 14 30/6 - 7/7/2018

Karl and Shelley came to celebrate a significant birthday for Karl and he had a gorgeous 43lb8oz mirror carp on Tuesday morning which was his birthday - just one of the 7 carp that he caught this week. He had achieved a new PB on Monday of a 31lb mirror and this smashed it. He also used some light gear and fished for roach, rudd and tench. They fished in swim 2.

Harry and Petra returned this year with their dog Luca and fished swim 5. Harry landed 5 carp to 17kg/37lb7oz.

It was a challenging week with temperatures going up to 30 degrees and a thunderstorm Wednesday night and showery rain on Thursday morning. All fish were caught between 8 o'clock in the evening and 9 o'clock in the morning. It was too hot during the day.
