A big thank you to Sharon and Gilles nothing was ever to much to ask for, we spent our honeymoon here sharon had gone out of her way to decorate the house for us even though the fishing was a bit slow we still had an amazing time and made some more good friends which we will be returning with next year, the house was immaculate, you would never of thought it was a fishing venue.

General Comments:

Giles & Sharon were very welcoming and helpful with any request we had. I only have one small complaint, there are too many grass carp, but we do understand why they have been put in the lake.

Details of your catches:

In total i had around 75 fish for the 2 weeks. The majority were grass carp up to 22 lb, but i had plenty of mirrors to 36 lb (3 30's) and several commons to 25. Average carp was probarbly mid 20's. I only fished a few hours per day and not at all on 2 days. I never fished after midnight. Total fishing time was around 90 hours at a guess. During the 2nd week we had temps of around 34 deg c most days, and the fishing got a lot slower (the lake felt like bath water at times!).

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

I used a total of 55 kgs of bait during the 2 weeks, mainly mainline new grange boilies with raja spice boilies and some pellets (about 20 kg). Using new grange paste was incredibly effective, so much so that i stopped using it (grass carp would not leave it alone!). As for rigs, i used simple snow man rigs with size 4 or 6 hooks and korda coated hook links. I had a lot of hook pulls the first week and lost 2 very large fish, having said that even mid 20's took 15 mins to land at times! I tried various different hook types and rigs but it made no real difference; i think the fish were not feeding that heavily at times, hence somewhat light hook holds.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Yes. Very good indeed.

Were you happy with them?

General Comments:

Mas Bas is an amazing place, as is the surrounding area. Gilles and Sharon were great hosts. Cannot fault them. If i return i would definitely fish the River Lot (we saw a guy catch a cat fish in a local town; looks very interesting place to fish). The main lake currently contains many grass carp and these can be somewhat frustrating at times (i had 7 in successive casts to the same rod one day!). They must be eating a lot of the bait that goes in; reducing their numbers further would help the carp get even bigger i'm sure!
