Dear Jim

I have just read your article on Grosley with much interest as I am taking my son and nephew in April, and I was a bit surprised to see the weather was so cold. We have booked pegs 17a 17b and 18, have you got any other advice for me and should I take my own bait or save some space and buy on site. One more thing is the tackle shop ok or should I stock up on rigs weights before I go. Sorry to ask such boring questions but these bit of info are not on the web site continue reading…

UK Carp’s Steve Board beats the Winter blues by crossing the Channel for some Winter.

What a grueller I’ve had – a dire few weeks with not a single carp landed. Add to that the filthy weather and it was no fun at all being out on the bank. Clearly I needed a bit of therapy.

With this in mind I rang David Keep from Angling Lines holiday company and asked if he’d anywhere I could go for a short winter break.. “Oh yeah, and can you make it easy so even I can catch?”

Within five minutes he’d returned my call and said he’d got just the place – Cedars Lake, just south of Paris. He went on to explain that the lake was four acres, with around 200 fish to just touching forty, but the real bonus was the two double swims, each with their own lodge behind complete with cooking facilities, beds and power. Now this appealed to me. No roughing it on this trip, we’d be fishing in style. We booked the ferries – we’d leave early Friday and come back Monday evening, giving us three night’s fishing with the chance of a few.

I am booked on Mas Bas main lake at the end of July.  I am the only person fishing (my wife will be sunbathing!). I’m starting to think about getting myself sorted out for the trip and am wondering how much bait (and what baits) I should be taking with me for a week. There is no mention of the fish stock, other than the presence of silver fish.

With silver fish, are pellets out of the question?

I would normally take some maize, hemp, pellet, vitalin and boilies. I think growlers are not allowed on the lake?

Is there anything I’ve overlooked, or should not even bother taking?

Is there a bait freezer on site?

The Quest Baits available – are they in France already, available from the owner, or should I order and take myself?

Also, I believe that there is a “going rig” at the lake – big hooks and heavy leads. Is this correct?

Any other tips would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation.
James

Hi James,

I think you’ll love Mas Bas it is a superb venue and you really feel like you are in the south of France. Don’t miss the market in Laroque, the one I shot in the video, it is very colourful.
There is quite a lot of info on Mas Bas both on the Angling Lines site and this blog. I’d suggest you go through this first off to get an idea.

I’ve just had the news and photos in from Eric at Grosley that the stocking of the new carp went ahead as planned just before Christmas.

On the 23rd of December a total of 290 mirror and common carp were introduced to the venue. These were split over the two lakes with 130 fish stocked to the small lake and 160 into the large lake.

The average size of the fish was 23lb. This included 28 fish over 30lb of which 12 went into the small lake. The largest specimen was a superb mirror of nearly 45lb. A further batch of fish over 30lb will be introduced later in January when the lakes have unfrozen.
