Hooked in France work finished !

Hi All,

The work is now complete here, more depths, no weed, new bays and bars. I have to say looks amazing what the boys have done in three and a half weeks.

We have ordered the chemicals to make sure the weed don’t come back which we will guarantee to do every year so the weed is hopefully history. Thank God!!

The changes Terry has made prove the total commitment he has for Hooked in France bearing in mind he did'nt take it over until August 23rd 2008.

The changes he has made are;

1.We now have mains water (it was from the well before)

2. New dam for better water control

3. 4 new valves to control the water flow in and out

4. New Electric gates for more security (not that we need that here)

5. Much deeper water

6. Bigger swims

7. No WEED

8. new features for every swim

9. Removed all the trees out the back for a new customer car park

10. New shed

11. 2 new aerators for good oxygen levels

13. Sliced the island for another Double swim (Natural)

14. A bigger and deeper stock pond

15. Decorated the bathroom and lodge.

16. Rat poison traps on every swim.(au revoir Roland lol)

There's more plans for updating the lodge next year. I will keep you all posted with that one.

So I hope you all agree the new owner Terry has made Hooked in France a much better fishery.... what’s the saying “a carp venue made by a carp angler”

We are on course for the winter specials January onwards.

Ian

Hooked in France update - Natural swim after the work

Hi,

Heres the Natural swim after we finished the work.

Nice deep hole we named the John Dere. It's a hole about 12ft deep & it's where the John Dere tractors kept getting stuck... so it would have been rude not to name it that wouldnt it!

There's also loads of deep holes and channels to find.

Not foretting it's now a double swim where we've sliced 6m of the island. So you can now fish to the bridge and the bay to the right. So yet another quality double here at Hooked in France.

Work commences at Hooked in France!

As promised the work commenced on 3rd October here at Hooked in France.

The first job was to start emptying the lake. We then we moved straight on to the stock pond and got that ready for the fish to be moved to - it is now 9ft deep.

The lake will take around 4 to 5 days to empty so we had a bit off time to remove all the large trees behing the house, run electric to both islands (For airaters) and to the gate which will be electric.

We also ran in the water mains at the same time.

The lake will be netted this wednesday 8th october, so check the website daily.

We have a new website as well now please check it out as we will be updating that as well, heres a few pictures for now.

45lb Mirror off the top @ Hooked in France

Chris McCormack caught this 45lb mirror off the top, using a dog biscuit.

First time for a while anyone has had one from the top so well done to Chris! He worked real hard to get it, smashing his pb (broke earlier on in the week) by almost double.

Nice one mate... the starting of a new tactic we hope !!!

Winter 2005 Projects at Hooked in France

For once fishing has not been the main activity at Les Montautiers over this winter period. As the main fishing season here runs from March through to the end of October, the winter slot gives Lee, the owner, ample opportunity make improvements and maintain the house, the lake and the facilities for the anglers.

Winter anglers on the "£200 fish whenever you like over the winter ticket" came and went as they pleased. In the meantime Lee enlisted the help of neighbours and friends from the UK to assist with various winter lake and facility improvements projects as described in this report.

I went over to see Lee and the lake in mid-February. I did the Luton to Dinard airbourne route this time instead of driving as Lee promised I could borrow a bit of his kit in exchange for sorting his troublesome computer out.

On arrival to Les Montautiers for my fourth visit in less than 2 years, I realised how much the property had changed since I first came.

Despite the water levels being a bit low for maintenance work purposes, the lake is now the deepest it's been since opening as a fishery. The curving bay bank between the Double Island swim and the Roadside is now stablised. Lee extended that part of the lake by several metres in his operation to secure the stability of the bank in Winter 2003.

All four of the main swims are now perfect fishing platforms. The swims are held in place with railway sleepers and gravelled over which helps keep the walking area dry. Designated areas have been setup for bivvies, 2 in each of the double swims and 1 on the Roadside and Natural swims. There's bins for rubbish and Lee has even gone to the trouble to set up a few climbing trees to help anglers spot the lurking carp.

In addition to the 4 main swims, stalking areas have now been established in places that were once overgrown.

Winter this year has seen the introduction of further reed beds along the eastern side of the lake between the Natural and Big Double swims. Also the water has been treated to prevent the overgrowth of the main weedy areas of the lake. The banks have been re-seeded in places as well, in particular, alongside the path connecting the Big Double and Natural swims. This area is often used for stalking showing carp.

Lake aside, I was most impressed with the work done to the anglers kitchen. The floor is now fully tiled - easier to clean off the mud the anglers bring in ;o). Also the cooking area has moved down to one end with the dining bench at the other in front of the impressive display of HinF carp photography. On top of that the place has been finished of with a fresh coat of paint and TV with Sky added to the room (ideal to catch up on them footy scores!).

Many thanks to the winter working party which consisted of:

Nick Wallwork (bailiff)
Nick Dixon
Scott Wallwork
Malc and Lesley
Simon Preston

None of it would have happened without you.

Cheers all and Tight Lines

Mike (Lee's Website Guy)
