Margot has definitely become established as one of the premiere big fish waters in France - its combination of rural tranquillity and truly awesome stock of very large carp make it a very popular destination for specimen anglers. Situated in a rural and agricultural landscape, Margot is around 12 acres in size and within 2.5 hours drive from the port of Caen. It is possible to book the lake exclusively.

12 acres in size, 8 pegs for a maximum of 8 anglers, Margot is home to 280 carp up to 59 lbs. At least 57 fish are over the 30lb barrier and around 10 over 40lb. The current record is an awesome common carp that weighs in at 59lb. The Koi carp go to upper 20's and the grass carp to 40lb+. The current sturgeon record is 67lb.

This is a relatively shallow lake ( 2 to 8 feet ) with a clay/fine silt bottom. The maximum distance you probably need to cast is just under 100 yards but most fish get caught within 30 yards of the bank. There are three boats on site which are available for your use.

Margot can produce some spectacular catches. Here’s a few examples;

“Don't know where to start! Top week's fishing.... common's to 41.lb, mirror's to 47.5lb, koi to 31lb First fish was a 15lb common shortly followed by a 41.lb common.... then all hell broke loose! What more can I say... top venue, top facilities. Would recommend it to anyone going France to catch stunning French fish. Out of my two trips I’ve had 43 carp”
Rob Allen, October 2007.

“ A total of 95 fish caught, with the largest a 49lb grassy. All nice fish, with plenty of 30lb’ers and several 40's!”
John Darby, May 2007.

“36 fish in total. A Sturgeon of 59lb, grass carp to 46lb, commons to 27lb, mirrors to 39lb, a 23 cat and a 15lb koi. A total haul of 1,087lb for the week including some right lumps and awesome Sturgeon.”
Paul Crookes, April 2007.

During the summer of 2005 France was hit by severe drought conditions. Margot was particularly affected and had problems with low water levels, oxygen depletion and unfortunately a few fish deaths. The owner took the decision to close the lake and to net the venue by way of a rescue mission to save the carp. The larger specimens were removed and transferred to one of his stock ponds being returned to the lake in February 2006. Our cameras were there to record everything

During the winter of 2005 rumours were rife that we’d seen the last of Margot as a big fish water… but our video clips and catch reports from every season since prove that without a doubt it’s back to all its former glory!

There is cabin on the bankside for the use of anglers which includes eating area, full kitchen facilities, English style toilet & shower.  There are also BBQ facilities outside.  Mini markets are within 2 minutes of the lake and hypermarkets 10 minutes away.

Margot is a relatively shallow lake with a clay/fine silt bottom. The maximum distance you’ll probably need to cast will be under 100m and most fish get caught within 30m of the bank. Weedbeds are present but usually don't create a major difficulty - a simple Quicksilver shock leader will help you control any weeded fish. Weed is usually at its worst around June/July – just go prepared. It's recommended that you either take a boat (3 are available on-site – use at your own risk) or a pair of chest-waders… this will help you place your rigs and land the fish.

Poisson Chat are present so you might need to use netted baits or alternatively use Tiger Nuts or Quest Pineapple Crush boilies. If you look at the feedback and articles you’ll see details of successful tactics others have employed to get the best from Margot.
