D K Sheppard Venue: Maurepaire Date of holiday: 19-05-2007 to 26-05-2007
No. of persons fishing: 2 Brief details of your catches: Richard Sheppard - 5 fish:-32 lbs 4oz mirror 39 lbs 10oz common 40 lbs 1 oz mirror 19 lb 13oz common 40 lbs 4oz mirror. Barry Jess - 1 fish 43 lbs 8oz mirror What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Fishing in Swim 1, I was able to fish the margins to the right all the way up the bank to the reed beds opposite. I placed one bait approx 10' from the bank adjacent to the duck food pile. A second bait was boated out to the bay in the far right-hand side of the reeds. The last bait was boated out approx mid-way (about 100 yds)and to the left of my swim. 4 of my 5 fish caught were from the swim to the right by the duck feed pile. 2 were caught using Assasin8 (32lb & 39lbs) the other 2 on the Quest Rajah Spice (40lbs & 19 lbs). With both of these baits I put approx 1 kilo with the hook baits and put approx 100 baits in approx 20' circle around the hook baits. The last fish at 40lbs 4oz was caught to the left of the swimagain approx 1 kilo of bait was put in from the boat with the hook baits and another 100-150 baits were placed in a 30' circle around them. The bait used was AssasinBarry fished Swim 2. His fish came in the early hours of the Saturday morning of departure - to the left of the swim, approx 50 yards out using similar tactics to myself and the Assasin8 bait.

General comments: Unfortunately the weather the preceding few weeks had been very cold. It rained persistently all the way to Maurepaire with the Saturday afternoon becoming very hot. It rained again during the night and continued until late Sunday morning. From then onwards the rest of the week was excessively hot with temperatures recorded at 38 degrees plus. I believe this affected the way the fish were feeding. As the lake warmed up the fish started to show towards the end of the lake where we were fishing. Certainly it was important to use a bait boat, this enabled the bait to be placed more accurately and at a greater distance.
Unfortunately Swim 1 was showing signs that it need some repairs. There is a large area that could not be utilised as it had merely been filled with large rocks.
The wooden pontoon at Swim 2 was in need of some repair. However at some stage I would still like to make a return visit to this lake as these items never affected our fishing or enjoyment. On the day of departure the fish were starting to show themselves and it was quite obvious that if the conditions are right the fishing would be brilliant! Thanks Angling Lines for yet another good holiday.

Were the facilities what you expected? Better Were you happy with them? Yes
Would you recommend the venue to a friend? Yes, but only pegs at either end of venue, ie. 1, 7-8
Would you recommend our services to a friend? Yes
General comments: Need a bait boat for this venue with the exception of peg 1 which has both the far margins and the dam wall to fish. All the other pegs need a boat to the far bank to reach the fish.
Advise plenty of spare bait boat batteries and take an adapter to recharge batteries.

Richard Hill Venue: Maurepaire Date of holiday: 05-05-2007 to 12-05-2007
No. of persons fishing: 2 Brief details of your catches: 6 fish, commons 17lb/ 21.10/32.12.mirrors 25.8 /29.14/32lb.we fished peg 2 for the week and found it pretty tough as the fish just seemed to be held up in the far rushes and not movin much. What did you find were the best tactics/baits: unfortunatly the bait boat was the best tactic,we set out not to use the boat and we wanted to get them going in the middle,i had 2 fish off the spot the very next morning, but as the days went on not a run was had from that spot again.and the only takes we could get were from the far margin using the bait boat, hemp, pellets, maize, and good fresh boiles.(malarki)!!.
Were the facilities what you expected? yes exelent. Were you happy with them? yes.

Dave Maddison Venue: Maurepaire Date of holiday: 05-05-2007 to 12-05-2007
No. of persons fishing: 1 Brief details of your catches: 23lb Mirror, 28 lb Mirror caught at distance. 2 small carp ( 3-4lb ) caught close in on light tackle. What did you find were the best tactics/baits: This is a long distance water. Bait boat is essential. Forget longcasting as shock leaders are not allowed. I tried fishing at all distances using all kinds of baits/rigs/tactics but in the end it was the baitboat up to the far bank that worked.
Were the facilities what you expected? Better, but quite a walk to them. Were you happy with them? Yes
Would you recommend the venue to a friend? Yes, if he is a distance angler.
Would you recommend our services to a friend? Yes
General comments: Big fish venue. Lots and lots of rules, most of which are common sense for the benefit of the fish. Some unusual : No torches, only headlamps allowed. No parking close to swims.
The fish seem to hold up on the far bank and the swims producing the biggest catches are on the extremes of the lake ie swims 7-8 and 1-2.
A baiboat is essential as are spare batteries and charging equipment.
The facilities are great although about a 10 min walk from peg 4 and twice as long from pegs 7 and 8.
