St. Christophe has really been making the news recently – it’s appeared no less than 3 times in the National Press since March 2007. Click here to read them.... |
St. Christophe is a true specimen hunters water – there are some truly exceptional carp swimming in its clear, aqua blue water. Here’s a couple of feedback examples from 2007:
“Hooked 14 carp & landed 11 of them including a stunning mirror of 54lb 4oz. A beautiful clear lake which looks almost tropical in colour when the sun shines. Easy access and comfortable banks. I look forward to returning in the future.”
Shaun Harrison, August 2008.
“Five fish over the week including a 51.06 and 41.12 mirror. Philippe, and Marie Jose are excellent hosts and could not look after you more. Most swims can accept two anglers and there is more than enough water to fish to.”
Paul Ashley, April 2007.

St. Christophe lies in the Champagne region of Eastern France, around 4 hours from Calais with the majority of the journey being by motorway. At the nearby famous Foret d’Orient lake complex there are numerous leisure activities, including swimming, cycle tracks and boating – making St. Christophe an ideal location for both the serious carper and for a family orientated carping holiday.

There are 2 lakes on the complex – the 35 acre Large Lake and a much smaller 2 acre lake (St. Christophe 2) which can be hired exclusively. The whole complex is securely surrounded by a perimeter fence.
The Large Lake
The Large Lake is a cobalt blue gravel pit, around 35 acres in size with 13 pegs around the edge which are well spaced out with vehicle access to each one. The banks are mature and surrounded by willows. It’s fairly deep in most places, averaging 2m, with a fairly flat lake bed made up of the sand and gravel typical of a gravel pit. There’s a large head of both mirror and common carp going to over 70lb.

The smaller lake (St. Christophe 2) can be hired exclusively, complete with bankside accommodation. Click here for details

On the Main Lake there is a stone built toilet & shower block near the main entrance. It’s a clean, modern building with an English style toilet and a large modern shower. Here you’ll also find a fridge/freezer for the use of the anglers.
The French owners remain on-site for much of the time and offer extra services including snacks like pizzas or chicken and chips, as well as drinks and bait. A baker calls at the lake at 9am every day, so you can get fresh bread, baguettes & croissants. The nearest supermarket is around 5 miles away.

The fish are fed regularly on carp pellets, the same ones they were reared on. These pellets are on sale at 35 euros for a 25kg sack and are available in 6mm, 8mm and 15mm. It’s a pellet that the fish adore and they cannot be recommended highly enough.

Please order all bait in advance through the Angling Lines office.

This 35 acre lake has a huge head of specimen carp – around 950 with an average weight close to 30lb. It’s really been making the news in the UK press because of some fantastic captures, culminating in the lake record mirror coming out at a massive 71lb 5oz in October 2007. There’s a real large head of 40 to 55lb fish – this is a true specimen water. You’ll need to work for the fish but the rewards are definitely there to be had.
The lake also has a good head of other large coarse species; bream, roach, tench and pike, but has no Poisson Chats, Crayfish or Wels Catfish.
