Tucked away on the peaceful eastern edge of the Morvan Regional Nature Park, Boux isn’t the kind of place that shouts for attention – and that’s exactly why it’s remained such a cherished venue for carp fishing in France over the last 30 years. In a world where venues often chase trends, Boux has stood the test of time by simply doing what it does best: offering seriously good fishing in a beautifully unspoiled setting.
As we celebrate three decades of this iconic French lake, we’re taking a moment to appreciate what makes Boux so special – and why it continues to draw anglers back year after year.
🏞 A Setting That Stills the Soul
The moment you turn off the quiet country road and drive down the private track to Boux, you’ll feel it – that deep, rural calm that’s hard to come by these days. With no motorways, no traffic, and only the occasional cry of a red kite overhead, this is true get-away-from-it-all territory.
Set just outside the Morvan Regional Nature Park, the lake sits within an estate that’s as rich in wildlife as it is in peace and quiet.

🎣 A Lake That Has Matured Beautifully
At 14 acres, Boux is the kind of lake that feels intimate, but still holds plenty of secrets beneath the surface. The depths range from 4–5ft close to the banks down to over 12ft at the dam end, with deeper channels running through the centre – all adding variety to your fishing.
The lake has a mix of clay, sand, and silt on the bottom, and a light covering of silkweed across much of it. Natural food sources abound – from snails, mussels and larvae to bloodworm and crayfish – making it no surprise that the fish here are in excellent condition year after year.
Weed beds in the corners offer great stalking opportunities, and the presence of crayfish (especially in the summer) means carp are often nearby, looking for a crunchy snack. Just make sure you come prepared with tiger nuts, mesh wraps or artificial baits if you’re visiting during the hotter months.

📈 30 Years of Carp History
The latest netting in 2022 revealed what many regulars already suspected – Boux remains a top-tier carp lake. With 103 carp, including 11 different fish over 50lb and another 20 in the 40s, the average weight here is superb.
You’ll also find a handful of large grass carp, some koi, a few pike, and silver fish like roach and tench.
This is a proper old-school lake – not stocked to the brim, but carefully maintained to preserve a truly rewarding angling experience and relatively straight forward carp fishing.

🛶 Natural Layout, Classic Vibes
Fishing is from a raised, flat area along the wooded bank or from the dam wall. This makes it ideal for social fishing with your mates while still enjoying the solitude that defines Boux.
Sunrise across the water is breathtaking, and the shaded woods offer a cool refuge during the summer heat – yet another reason anglers love this venue year-round.
While you can’t drive directly to your swim, it’s a 110–130m barrow from the car park to the fishing areas or load up the boat and use that to travel to your swim – it’s well worth the effort once you’re set up.

🏡 Practical, Purposeful Facilities
Boux keeps things simple, in the best possible way. Down by the lake, there’s a basic compost toilet, but just a three-minute drive away is the main facility area at the farm. Here, you’ll find:
- A fridge and bait freezer
- A spacious shower room with toilet and hot water
- A sink with hot/cold water for washing up
- Charging points
A boat with life jackets is provided, helpful for placing rigs or retrieving fish in the weedier areas. The use of life jackets is mandatory for your safety.

🛒 Everything You Need, Close By
Despite its feeling of complete seclusion, Boux is conveniently located just two miles from a local village with everything you might need – including a small supermarket, petrol station, bars, and restaurants.
And if you can tear yourself away from the rods, the Morvan Natural Park offers vast forests, lakes, rivers, and miles of hiking trails – perfect for nature lovers or those travelling with family.
🎂 Here’s to the Next 30 Years
Boux isn’t loud. It’s not flashy. But over the past three decades, it has quietly become one of the most loved and respected carp lakes in France. It’s a place where the fish are real, the setting is wild, and the pace of life slows down just enough to remind you why you fell in love with angling in the first place.
So here’s to 30 years of unforgettable carp fishing at Boux and to many more still to come. 🍻🎣
