Overview

Genêts is situated in the idyllic, peaceful countryside of the Pays de la Loire region, near Mayenne. Although easy to find with the directions supplied it is set well away from busy main roads - the only neighbours you'll be likely to see are cows grazing in the nearby fields - making this an ideal setting for a quiet week of carp fishing France.

The Carp Lake

This is a 40 year old man-made carp lake of approximately 5½ acres, fed by a natural spring, with a silt over clay bottom. The owners have retained its natural look with trees and bushes overhanging the water, giving shade and shelter to both anglers and fish. Carp fishing France in beautiful surroundings.

There are 9 single swims and 1 double.  Genets is ideally suited for a group of up to 4 anglers, so there's plenty of room to move around, but bookings are accepted for up to 5 anglers if booked exclusive.

All the swims are on one side of the lake and are well drained with good cover and plenty of space for large bivvies. The bank you fish to is mostly tree and bush lined.

Owners Larry, Steve & Heather live on-site so there is always someone available should you need any help or advice. The property is securely fenced in and there is a car parking area. Larry & Steve can help you transport your tackle to your swim if you wish.

The Carp

After the lake was purchased in 2003 the owners supplemented the existing stock of high doubles with additional stock in '04 & '05, consisting of mainly 20's to high 30's with further stock being added in '08 & '10 of mainly mid to high 20’s. 

Genets now holds around 150 beautiful mirrors & commons which includes 2 known 50's, at least 10 x 40's & countless 30+'s. The lake has no poisson chat or crayfish.

In 2006 & again prior to the start of the 2010 season, the owners had the professional fish farmers in to net the lake to remove all the unwanted small fish, this really helps with future carp growth rates.

 The lake record now stands at 56lb 2oz caught in April 2012 by Dan Johnson.

The Facilities

There is a comfortable lodge overlooking the lake where breakfast and evening meals are served.

In the lodge there are UK electrical sockets for mobile phone charging etc. and a freezer for bait.  For those wanting to keep up with UK television there is also a full size TV.  Snacks, beer, wine, soft drinks, milk, and bottled water are all available.  The use of bottled water is recommended for drinking water & tea/coffee making.  

Next to the lodge is the shower and toilet block (2 showers, 2 toilets) which has hot water 24 hours a day. A washing machine & tumble dryer are available for your use for a small charge. 

If you want to access your emails a computer with a secure internet connection can be made available to use in the lodge free of charge during the day. 

Anything purchased on site eg. food, bait, drinks, etc can be paid for at end of the week, but the owners ask that you pay in Euros.

Mobile Home

There is a basic, clean & comfortable mobile home which can be hired for an additional cost.  It sits near the lodge, overlooking the lake and sleeps up to 4 people, giving you the opportunity to take along partners or non-anglers… or just simply provide a bit more comfort.

There are 2 bedrooms, 1 with a double bed & 1 with 2 singles (bedding can be provided for a small charge). There’s a comfortable sitting area with a television that receives UK TV channels & a DVD player, a tackle store & a small galley kitchen with hob, microwave & kettle.

There’s no toilet or shower as these facilities are available in the adjacent shower block. 

Meals

This venue offers an excellent food package.  We're told nobody has ever left hungry, so be prepared to put on a bit of weight!  The food package includes;

• a full cooked English breakfast with cereals, toast and as much tea and coffee as you can drink... or a breakfast baguette delivered to your swim

• a two-course evening meal (main course and sweet)

Breakfast & evening meals are served in the lodge or, weather permitting, at the seating area overlooking the lake. For those hardy fishermen who don't want to reel in they are more than happy to serve your evening meals at the gazebo situated close to your swims.

Please note; if you book the food package you will be asked to pay a 10% deposit to Angling Lines and the balance to the lake in Euros when you arrive. Please note that due to fluctuations in the exchange rate the balance you pay when you arrive may not equate exactly to the remaining 90% in £’s sterling – it may be slightly more or less due to a change in the exchange rate.

Carp Bait

Bait is available to purchase on-site.  To order bait please contact the owner direct. The owners Email address & phone number can be found on the directions sheet which will be made available to you in your Customer Area on our website when your holiday has been paid for in full.

Important notes;

• when it comes to feed the lakes main concern has to be their carp & consistent good water quality. That is why they now ONLY allow pellets and particles supplied at the venue to be used. The pellets are supplied by a major French company who are a principal supplier to French fish farms. They are good growing pellets with a high protein content but not too high in oils. The carp are fed on these pellets throughout the year & recognize them as a food source. 

• Shelf Life boilies are not permitted at this venue. There is a bait freezer available for you to store bait.

Boilies;

• Fresh/Frozen. Lake Specials, 18mm (made by the Carp Company) 12€ / kg or 55€ / 5kg
• Northern Specials Pop-Ups 14mm 8€ a tub.

Lake Pellet;

• 14€ / 5kg
• 65€ / 25kg

Particle;

• Prepared maize... 12€ / 5kg

Please note; Bait orders are made directly between you and the lake owner.  We (Angling Lines) cannot be held responsible for any problems that may subsequently arise.  If you order bait to be waiting for you when you arrive we strongly recommend you telephone or Email the owner a few days before your arrival to make sure it will be there for you.  In 99% of cases this will just be purely precautionary, but bait is such an important part of your holiday that it’s only sensible to take every step to avoid problems.

Carp Tackle Hire

Baitboats;

• Cost... £55 or 60€ per week
• Refundable deposit of £100 or 115€

Bivvies & bedchairs;

• Bedchair... 25€ a week

Good quality large weigh slings & unhooking mats are provided at each swim FOC.

Return visits;

Visit this lake 2 (or more) times in the same calendar year & get a 10% discount on the return visits!

We have lots of customers who make more than one trip with us and we want to reward that loyalty. Certain venues have agreed to participate in a discount scheme for return trips. This lake is one of those taking part… so book a return trip and get your 10% discount!

Conditions:

• Applies to fishing only & excludes accommodation (if normally booked separately), food, bait etc.
• Applies to ferry crossing for vehicle only (excludes trailers, cabins etc)
• Members of a group booking who have not visited twice will not be eligible for the discount
