Weather at Notaires

Overview

The Notaires Lakes are located deep in the French countryside in the region known as the green heart of France. The Creuse is one of the last undiscovered tourist destinations and Notaires is a new venue that hadn’t been commercially fished before Chris and Steph the current owners took over.  Notaires Lakes are 2 mature carp lakes set close to the accommodation which is a newly renovated 200 year old Limousin stone built farmhouse. Peace and quiet are guaranteed as there are no roads or railways close by, but thanks to the great motorway network it is only 5½ hours from Caen. At Notaire’s you have character accommodation and character fishing... a great place for fishing holidays.

The fish stocks have been added in stages to ensure their health and vigour and now range from 15lb to a terrific 41lb, with the average in the high 20’s.

Set in its own 75 acre estate with friendly animals, accessible only by a private road and with a swimming pool adjacent to the accommodation & overlooking the carp lake, Notaires is perfect for combining a family holiday with a fishing holiday.

The Carp Lake

The two mature lakes have been made by damming a stream in a natural valley and the water tumbles down from one lake to the next.  They are adjacent to each other and measure around 4 acres in total.

They’re comparable in size with similar stock density, so you can choose to fish amongst family and friends close to the house or in your own tranquil setting on the top lake.

Both lakes are roughly rectangular in shape and fringed by mature beech, oak, willow and alder trees. The willows create plenty of cover and provide bays to fish to on long summer days whilst the large oak and beech trees provide welcome shade for both the carp and fishermen.

There are no poisson chat and any crayfish are kept under control by the resident catfish. Vehicle access is possible to both lakes, so unloading fishing gear is nice and easy.

The Carp

The lakes have been stocked with fast growing Royale carp and a few grass carp.

The smallest fish are around 15lb ranging at the upper end into the low 40’s.

As well as the carp, each lake also has a medium-sized catfish to do the lake housekeeping.

The carp are triploid which means that they do not breed, so less time is lost in schooling and spawning, plus they grow faster. Another positive factor is the consequent absence of small carp. 

Furthermore, as previously mentioned, the lakes are stream fed and this is great for keeping the fish active.

The Facilities

The lakeside accommodation is a very roomy farmhouse, traditionally built in the Creuse style and lovingly restored. It’s packed with history and character. The ground floor opens into a large open plan kitchen and living area with oak beams. It’s an ideal family room.

The kitchen is well equipped with a large five-burner gas stove, electric oven, grill and rotisserie. There is also a kettle, toaster, coffee-maker, microwave and fridge-freezer.

Off the main living area is a small utility room with WC. There’s also a ground floor bedroom which would be convenient for family members with limited mobility. The hallway opens into a cloakroom which is useful for storing fishing gear.

Upstairs is the large master bedroom with oak beams and period furniture. There are also two twin bedrooms and a large bathroom.

In the colder months you will stay cosy thanks to the inset wood-burning stove which is fuelled by home grown wood and backed up by gas-fired central heating.

If you want to check your Emails whilst you’re away that’s not a problem as this venue does have wireless internet connection available.

Outside is a generous garden that overlooks the lake and features a 200 year old oak tree, great for providing natural shade when you’re sitting or eating outdoors. At the side of the house a swimming pool was constructed for the 2010 season. Partners and children can laze by the pool while keeping an eye on the anglers.

The owners Christopher and Stephanie raise llamas and alpacas on the farm and you may see visitors trekking through the neighbouring fields with these lovely, friendly animals. All guests are offered a complementary trek. It’s a wonderful experience.

The Animals;

In addition to the llamas there are many other friendly animals to meet at the Notaire’s Lakes which are always very popular with children.

Walking and cycling;

The Creuse has an extensive network of green lanes and quiet roads which are excellent for walking and cycling. Several Grand Randonnées (public footpaths) run nearby and there are many marked walks as well. Cycling is a great way of seeing the architecture of the little villages and perhaps stopping for a coffee on the way. You don’t even have to bring your own bikes - they have tough mountain bikes in a range of sizes available for hire. There are signed cycle routes or the owners can suggest itineries to take in interesting features and beauty spots.

Local attractions;

Shopping: PO, garage and boulangerie in our local village 2km away. Supermarkets, banks in Boussac 15km away. Hypermarkets at Gueret 40km and Montlucon 45km away. Various weekly markets. Limoges 80km away.

Leisure: swimming pools at La Chatre 30km, Soumans 20km; swimming lakes at Chatelus Malaveix 12km and Treignat 25km. Golf course Les Dryades 10km, Gouzon 20km. Numerous walks in the area. Riding stables at Nouzerines 2km and Clugnat 10km.

Airport Collection Service;

Grab a cheap flight to Limoges and you could be fishing on the bankside just three hours after take-off. The owners can collect up to 6 people and then supply you with up to 3 sets of tackle.  You'll find more details below.

Grab a cheap flight to Limoges and you could be fishing on the bankside just three hours after take-off. The owners can collect up to 6 people.

They can then supply you with up to 3 sets of tackle ((bivvy, bedchair, 3 rods, reels, alarms, rod pod, landing net, mat… everything apart from terminal tackle).

Total price for this service, including pick-up & tackle hire is 150€ per person per week.

Conditions:

• Applies to fishing & accommodation but excludes food, bait etc.
• Applies to a Dover - Calais ferry crossing.  Other crossings will be discounted but it may not be possible to offer a 50% discount on the ferry crossing
• Heating supplement may apply
