Overview

Oakview is a very well stocked carp lake with a perfect layout for bivvy anglers and an immaculate lakeside lodge. This outstanding venue offers some of the best carp fishing in France with accommodation you'll find anywhere.

The lake's shape and central island means that up to 4 anglers can each have plenty of open water and similar features to fish to... and in the two lodge swims you can enjoy a drink or meal on the terrace without even having to reel-in!

The venue is surrounded by mature trees and is located in the sleepy Mayenne countryside just 2 hours from the nearest ferry port.  English owners Martin and Shirley live on site but not actually on the lake complex itself, so guests really do enjoy the benefit of having this beautiful venue to themselves.

This week's Oakview was a classic & I don't think I will better this week's catch. Eight 30lb+ including my PB common and 11 fantastic quality 20lb fish up to 29lb 8oz. I always thought fishing was just an excuse for being at this lovely venue, but now I've had both. Anyone wanting to start fishing in France should consider Oakview - you won't go far wrong. As for Martin & Shirley - you won't find nicer owners.

We had our first trip to Oakview last summer and just like every other newcomer, on our return to England, set about booking our return. Oakview has that affect on you! The lake is stunning and stocked with quality fish & every fish caught was in superb condition. As for our hosts (Martin and Shirley) you could not ask for nicer people!  They are never intrusive, leaving you to the exclusivity of the lake but are always on hand if needed or required. We don't just look at them as lake owners, but as friends! The lodge at Oakview can only be described as superb! Far superior to what you would expect from lesser fisheries (all mod cons and top quality as always). The amenities and surroundings are kept in top condition allowing those with mobility issues to access the entire venue.

The Carp Lake

The 2½ acre carp lake is roughly pear shaped with an island at its centre - so there's no short straw swim in terms of features to fish to.  Flat grassy banks give access all around so bivvy anglers can set up anywhere they wish.  And of course there's always the lodge swims where you can enjoy the comforts of the lodge terrace and still be close to your rods.

The lake bottom is mainly clay with some gravel spots.  There are deeper areas at both ends and a trench runs along the length of the lake bed. The depth ranges between 3.5ft and 9ft and there are no shallow no-go areas.

Guests can also enjoy the exclusive use of a half acre course lake with tench, perch, roach and carp up to 20lb.

The Carp

The carp lake has a large head of carp (100+) to over 40lb, with very few less than 20lb. Oakview has no nuisance fish and carp fry are removed regularly by netting.

The following stats are taken from all of the Oakview catch reports in 2012, totalling nearly 9,000lb of carp banked:

• 20% were 30's or 40's - so on average 1 run in 5 resulted in a 30lb+ carp

• 70% were 20's - so 9 out of 10 runs resulted in a 20lb+ carp

• 10% were between 15 and 20lb - so just 1 run in 10 resulted in a carp just less than 20lb

The Facilities

The immaculate lakeside lodge has a covered wooden deck and panoramic views of the lake. With two twin bedrooms and a sofa bed it's fully equipped to cater for 6 people.

It comprises;

• a spacious lounge and dining area with flat screen UK TV and DVD 

• a kitchen with everything you could possibly need for cooking and serving meals (cooking is optional though - you could chose to have a full English breakfast and evening meal served to you each day)

• a shower room and separate WC

Everything is provided from clean towels and bed linen to tea towels and even egg cups!  A complimentary travel cot, play pen and bikes are also available.  All water is from the mains and is perfectly safe to drink. 

A stroll of a few yards through the orchard will bring you to the bait shed with all the freezer space you could possibly need. 

Nash Monster carp cradles and weigh slings are also provided free of charge.

A Wi-Fi signal can be found just outside the lodge and guests are welcome to use the owner's computer and broadband connection if required.

Fish the lodge swims from the lodge terrace or bivvy up round the lake.  Either way full use of the lodge and its facilities are included in the price.

Meals

A food package is available at this venue consisting of breakfast & evening meal.

Please note; if you book the food package you will be asked to pay a 10% deposit to Angling Lines and the balance to the lake in Euros when you arrive. Please note that due to fluctuations in the exchange rate the balance you pay when you arrive may not equate exactly to the remaining 90% in £’s sterling – it may be slightly more or less due to a change in the exchange rate.

Carp Bait

This venue stocks Quest Baits and Quality Baits. To order bait please contact the owner direct. The owners Email address & phone number can be found on the directions sheet which will be made available to you in your Customer Area on our website when your holiday has been paid for in full.  Please order at least 4 weeks in advance. You pay the owner in Euros when you arrive. Please note; the Euro to £ sterling exchange rate does fluctuate throughout the year.

Please note; Bait orders are made directly between you and the lake owner and/or Quest Baits.  We (Angling Lines) cannot be held responsible for any problems that may subsequently arise.  If you order bait to be waiting for you when you arrive we strongly recommend you telephone or Email the owner a few days before your arrival to make sure it will be there for you.  In 99% of cases this will just be purely precautionary, but bait is such an important part of your holiday that it’s only sensible to take every step to avoid problems.

Carp Tackle Hire

Nash Monster carp cradles and weigh slings are provided free of charge and the following items are also available for hire;

• 2 Man bivvy – 40€ per week
• 1 Man bivvy – 35€ per week
• Bedchair – 20€ per week
• Rod setup – 45€ per week (includes 3 rods, reels, alarms and rod pods).  Please bring your own end tackle

Return visits;

Visit this lake 2 (or more) times in the same calendar year & get a 10% discount on the return visits!

We have lots of customers who make more than one trip with us and we want to reward that loyalty. Certain venues have agreed to participate in a discount scheme for return trips. This lake is one of those taking part… so book a return trip and get your 10% discount!

Conditions:

• Applies to fishing only & excludes accommodation (if normally booked separately), food, bait etc.

• Members of a group booking who have not visited twice will not be eligible for the discount
