10 mirrors to 39.4lb and 11 commons to 32lb. 7 x 30s, 4 x 25+, 5 x 20s and 5 under 20s

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:
Minimal feed. Multi rigs. Dark baits. Washed out pop ups + triple corn worked best. Be prepared to change if something isn't working, don't just sit behind rods in hope

General comments:
- Bring a variety of baits and pop-ups.
- Don't expect the bait on site to perform.
- From a disabled angler's view, the lake and gite are spot on. Happily got about the venue in my wheelchair. Shower downstairs is awesome
- Give Chas a call and ask what rigs are working best as tackle shop is a bit of a drive away

I personally had just the two carp for the week with my 2nd best ever at over 38lbs, as well as a jack pike on corn?

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:
I've left the catches box empty as I left the record keeping for the week to James, my long suffering fishing companion who takes me with him so he looks good. 😉

When we arrived the weather was just turning and we ended up with lows of 2 degrees and highs of single digits, wind and rain. We saw plenty of good fish but they weren't particularly feeding, consequently no particular bait worked consistently and our fish came to no particular bait or tactic, though small baits popped up certainly seemed to work best.

When the sun did shine it was easy to spot the fish in the water.

This was our fourth trip to Vaux, the facilities are excellent. The slow cooker was used most days to provide sustenance in a very cold week, and we ate very well. We've fished there in summer too, barbecuing whilst fishing .

I cannot think of any other facilities anyone would need, and indeed Chas has put much thought into making the lake and the gite user-friendly, particularly for disabled anglers.
Were you happy with them?
Everything you need from Sky TV to a freezer in the old mill to keep your baits. Clean and tidy gite. The lake itself is pristine, Chas works hard to keep it and the environment around it in great order both for anglers and families.

I've recommended Vaux to friends in the past who want an angling holiday where you want for nothing. This is the total opposite to "drive and survive", there are lots of 'touristy' things to do for families in the surrounding area if you've brought family and can't get away with fishing all week.

Angling Lines take all the hassle out of booking separate ferries etc, so yes, I would.

General comments:
If you want to fish for pristine fish up to around the 60lb mark, in stunning surroundings, then go for Vaux.

We've been in much warmer weeks when the fish have been feeding and done very well. We've also been in colder weeks when the fish, naturally haven't been as kind to us. Chas hates people not catching and will do everything he can to help you to catch. I've had lessons from him (much needed) in tying rigs, hook sharpening, baiting up, where EXACTLY to put my hook-baits, how to find the fish etc. I've employed many of these in my own fishing to good effect. Do what he says is the best advice I can give on how to catch, as he fishes it himself on a regular basis

Details of your catches:
9 carp in total to 44lb 8oz

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:
Trickling a small quantity of freebies spread out around the hook baits around captures worked best . We avoided tight obvious baiting as this hasn't worked previously ....... little and often around your bait is my advice and don't pile in the bait !

All fish came to popped up plastic corn or small pop ups

Facilities are as excellent as ever and that's why it's our 4th trip to Vaux now and a firm favourite
Were you happy with them?
The accommodation is great and we really put to use the slow cooker due to the cold weather and are like king , I recommend it as it's so easy and you can have it cooking away all day whilst you fish

We have and continue to do so, it's not a runs water (unless they decide to go mad and you're lucky ) and you have to really work hard at your angling to snare them but there are some amazing carp to be caught in great condition and the scenery and wildlife is wonderful.

General comments:
As I have said at times you have to really angle hard to get a result and think about your fishing. Be prepared to adapt what you're doing, otherwise you can and will struggle, Don't forget these carp get fished for most weeks of the year and have seen it all before!

Chas is there most days for a couple of hours and is a great guy who wants you to catch and will offer great advice if asked, my top tip is to talk to him ..... Especially before you start!

PS Please don't be tempted to use back leads as you don't have too and due to the rocky sides of the lake you will get cut off at some point and lose fish which will be left trailing line and rigs (we have in the past caught fish that were like this) and you have to see with your own eyes to appreciate the damage bad angling can do sometimes which isn't what carp fishing is about or what Chas and his carp deserve (not a rant but just advice).

With this in mind I would recommend using fluorocarbon main line or mono with a 30lb Fluorocarbon leader (making sure that all rig components can pass over the knot) and fish a tight line so bite indication is maximised.

We did have cold weather for the week we were there with the temperature dropping down to 7 degrees wich made it tough going as it was double digit the couple of weeks before and typically it was 17 degrees the Sat we packed up but that's life and we did ok...... we will be back.

No absolutely not we saw at least 4 fish that were dying and going blind. It was quite obvious that the fish had a virus / disease there eyes were popping out of there heads. We saw a number of other fish that were just moving slowly in mid water. Then the owner decides to tell us that he has had quite a few dead fish. Very disappointed we should of been informed and we would have not of wasted our money and would have travelled elsewhere. We have had to completely disinfect all of our gear I hope other anglers visiting are made aware of the conditions on the lake and don't suffer the loss of time and money that we have.

*Angling Lines note* We take feedback of this nature very seriously and have investigated this thoroughly. In this case we can find no validity to any significant virus or parasite issues. Over the years a few carp die naturally, particularly when the weather begins to warm up. This is quite normal and something good fishery managers take into account. Sadly whilst we are extremely sympathetic to an angler not catching well and having a poor carping experience, it was not down to any drastic issue, fish kill or venue failure. It was simply a really tough weeks fishing due to lake and weather conditions.

The service you give is great the lake is definitely not as per my previous comments

We hooked and lost four fish in the first four days and missed numerous other runs. Weather took a turn for the worst after wed and we returned home early through illness. What an opportunity missed by our inexperience. Chas showed us the rigs he uses but we had missed the boat by then. Maybe next year!!

Had a great week's holiday. Fishing was very hard for three inexperienced anglers. Chas was brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble. He was very patient in helping us, for which we were very grateful.

Details of your catches:
Total of 9 fish with the biggest mid 30.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:
We caught on a wide variety of hook baits from wafters to zigs. The fish were being a bit tricky due to the high volume of naturals the lake has to offer at this time of year. The fish were still very active and were fizzing mainly in the silty areas of the lake. Most of the captures were on singles as we found applying small beds of bait made the fish stay clear of the spots.

This is a fantastic little water that is certainly worth visiting. The cottage is great and has everything needed. Will certainly be returning in the future years.

Cheers Chas and Josie
