Alder Lake is a mature lake dating back to the 1960s. It is set in the centre of 150 acres of Limousin farmland and trees. Check out the aerial view on Google Maps, and you’ll see there are no roads, railways or pylons close by. All our visitors comment about the beautiful and peaceful countryside. The lake is 10 acres in size and can be booked by up to 5 anglers giving a massive 2 acres of space per person (at least). The lake is set in the centre of France, but thanks to the great motorway network it is only 5½ hours from Caen.
A great peaceful lake with features, fish all good quality, lake has great potential, I look forward to returning to see how they have grown.

The most peaceful fishing place I’ve ever fished.

Just like to say we really enjoyed our days at your lake, the peace and quiet
and especially the fishing:

This beautiful lake is set in a natural bowl and fringed by mature oaks, chestnuts and alders. It is fed by two streams on either flank of the isthmus giving two sets of features, one on each side. The overhanging trees on the isthmus provide plenty of snags and cover and are great fish holding areas. The rest of the lake is snag free. It has a stony bottom with silt channels following the old stream beds. The pegs are cut between the trees giving plenty of cover. Depths range from shallows to 15ft, and there are no weed problems.

Because Alder is set in the middle of glorious unspoilt countryside it’s not possible to connect it up to mains electricity or water, so the facilities are basic and environmentally sensitive. The toilet system was purchased from Canada where the provision of hygiene services in the arctic wilderness is a problem long since solved! A low flush self cleaning toilet leads to a bio-digester which in the long term generates compost. The low flush volume is provided by a bucket of lake water and no fossil fuel is burnt to provide it!
In a separate cabin there is a gas cooker. Fresh water is fetched down from the owners farm house in containers. Lighting is currently provided by gas lamps (these will eventually be superseded by solar powered lights).
The main toilet, shower and freezer facilities are located at the owners farm which is about a 5 minute walk away.

Tackle Hire & Airport Collection Service
Grab a cheap flight to Limoges and you could be fishing on the bankside just three hours after take-off. The owners can collect up to 6 people.
They can then supply you with up to 3 sets of tackle ((bivvy, bedchair, 3 rods, reels, alarms, rod pod, landing net, mat… everything apart from terminal tackle).
Total price for this service, including pick-up & tackle hire is 150 Euros per person per week.

A meal package is available for £99 per person per week consisting of:
- A tasty breakfast roll packed with bacon or sausage, mushrooms and egg and tea/coffee.
- Lunchtime sandwich roll and cold drink (delivered to swim)
- Two course dinner with bottle of beer or glass of wine
An assortment of welcome packs is available so that you don’t have to rush off shopping the moment you arrive. You can opt for all things French in our France Flavours packages, or stick with what you know in the British Basics packages. Contact us for details.

The lake was drained in 2005 and restocked in 2006 with fast-growing Royale hybrids to the mid 30’s. Additional stocks have been added each year until now there are around 220 carp, with the smallest in the region of 20 lbs and the largest in excess of 40lbs. As the carp are non-breeding there are no small carp and little time is taken up with spawning behaviour. There are no poisson chat and the crayfish are kept well in check by the 50lb silure (Well’s catfish). There is a bottle of champagne waiting for the first angler to land the catfish!
A further 70 fish up to mid 30’s were added in December 2009 – you can read about this stocking here.
