Malhere was bought by the present owners 3½ years ago and they have worked on it tirelessly to create a family carp anglers dream. The owner is a keen carper himself and that’s clearly evident at the lake. He’s designed it for himself... a carp angler that likes to take his family along... and now you can share it too!
If you take the family you’ll no doubt want to hire the high quality mobile home which is situated just a few metres from the water. However, this is optional and if you’d prefer to go for a cheaper bivvy holiday then this is possible, as there’s a separate shower and toilet block, with fridge freezer, on-site.
Malhere is situated in a rural part of Brittany, just 1½ hours from the Caen or St. Malo ferry port. The lake is approximately 2 acres in size and has a 6 acre wood at the rear, being surrounded on the other three sides by farmland.
There’s plenty for the non-angler to see & do in the surrounding area. It sits 5 miles from the medieval town of Fougeres, which has lots of supermarkets and restaurants and a great market on Saturday mornings. Around 10 miles in the other direction is Vitre, another medieval town with a lovely old chateau and lots of restaurants.
The lake can accommodate 2 anglers comfortably... but 3 would be possible providing you’re all good friends! It has a clay bottom and an average depth of 1 to 2m with level grass banks, so you can comfortably walk around the whole perimeter.
There are overhanging bushes and trees on 3 sides and most people tend to fish on the bank nearest the mobile home because from here you can cover the whole lake, but it’s up to you where you choose to set up. The fish tend to hold up tight to the banks and can nearly always be found lurking under the gorse bushes.

The mobile home has 3 bedrooms – one double and two with 2 single beds (these can be pushed together to make double beds). Duvets and pillows are supplied, but please bring your own covers, sheets, pillowcases and towels.
There’s a fully equipped kitchen with hob, oven, grill, microwave & toaster and there’s a large TV with satellite (receives free to air UK channels) in the lounge. For those long summer evenings there’s also an excellent gas BBQ outside.
There is no mains electricity or water on site. The electricity is supplied by generator, which is easily turned on by a switch inside the mobile. The water is pumped from the well, which is fine for washing etc, but not recommended for drinking... we advise you to take bottled water for this. The plugs in the mobile and outside are English, which makes it easy for charging phones, boats etc.

In the first two years the lake was stocked with 115 carp, ranging from 15lb to 40lb. There are a mixture of commons and mirrors, a few koi, a couple of pike and a small catfish. Also crucian carp up to 5lbs and plenty of roach and rudd to keep the kids happy.
The carp have been fed regularly on pellet and Sensas Probiotic red, which we have found to be a really fast weight gaining boilie. The carp love these baits and they can be supplied. Also many fish have been caught on maize.
