Overview
Are you looking for a French water that has the potential to smash your PB? Margot has established itself as one of the premiere big fish waters in France and definitely has the potential to send you home with aching arms and a very large smile on your face. With common carp to 71lb, grass carp over 45lb, koi carp to 36lb and the current sturgeon lake record standing at 67lb there’s a target here for everyone! This is premier league carp fishing in France.
Take a look at these catches;
The Carp Brew team fished Margot in May 2011 taking 1 x mid 40, 18 x 30lb’ers & a further 18 x 20lb’ers, but that’s not exceptional.
Only a few weeks earlier Mr Newton’s party had 93 carp with 3 of the party having 40lb+ fish and cats to 40lb+ too.

Situated in the Western Loire Margot is close to the historic cities of Le Mans, Angers and Tours, and is only 2¼ hours drive from the port of Caen. Its combination of rural tranquillity and massive stock of very large fish has made it a very popular destination for specimen anglers for years.
It’s around 19 acres with 8 flat pegs for up to 8 anglers and you can book the lake exclusively should you wish.
It’s a relatively shallow lake (2 to 8 feet) with a clay/fine silt bottom. Drag a marker float and lead across the bottom and you will soon locate the hard gravelly areas polished clean as the carp feed.
The maximum distance you probably need to cast is just under 100 yards but many fish get caught within 30 yards of the bank.

Margot is owned by one of France’s most respected fish farmers, Michel Bigot, so as you can imagine the carp stocks are remarkable. Put quite simply he has readily available what most lakes just cannot get their hands on... an almost limitless supply of big carp offering you some of the very best carp fishing in France.
The current stock is over 400 carp up to 71lb. At least 100 fish are over the 30lb barrier and around 30 over 40lb. The current record is an awesome common carp that weighs in at 71lb! The Koi carp go to 36lb, the grass carp to 45lb+ and the current sturgeon record is 67lb.

62lb mirror carp stocked at Margot!
The Bigots have just added (December '12) another 26 large carp to Margot including a magnificent 62lb mirror!
In total 26 carp with an average weight of 37lb 6oz were stocked; 1 x 62lb, 3 x 40lb+, 12 x 35lb+, 8 x 30lb+, 2 x 20lb+

There are excellent facilities at the lakeside including a large cabin for the use of anglers containing an eating area, full kitchen, and an English style toilet & shower.
Outside there’s BBQ facilities and a gazebo that will seat everyone on the lake for dinner, very convenient to catch up on the days captures.
There are three boats on site which are available for your use.
The shops are easily reached with a mini market within 2 minutes of the lake and the hypermarket only 10 minutes away.
Michel Bigot has arranged with the local baker to visit Margot every morning, except Wednesday, with fresh bread, cakes, croissant etc. Anglers will also be able to order Pizzas for collection in the evening at the bakery.

Carp Bait
This venue stocks Quest Baits. To order bait please contact the owner direct. The owners Email address & phone number can be found on the directions sheet which will be made available to you in your Customer Area on our website when your holiday has been paid for in full. Please order at least 4 weeks in advance. You pay the owner in Euros when you arrive. Please note; the Euro to £ sterling exchange rate does fluctuate throughout the year.

Please note; The lake only stocks the above Quest products. Large orders (min 25kg) of other flavours are available if you pre-order with a minimum of 5 weeks notice.

Please note; Bait orders are made directly between you and the lake owner and/or Quest Baits. We (Angling Lines) cannot be held responsible for any problems that may subsequently arise. If you order bait to be waiting for you when you arrive we strongly recommend you telephone or Email a few days before your arrival to make sure it will be there for you. In 99% of cases this will just be purely precautionary, but bait is such an important part of your holiday that it’s only sensible to take every step to avoid problems.
