Overview
A typical English estate lake located in Brittany? It sounds strange but it’s true. Just 30 minutes south of Rennes and an easy 2½ hour drive drive from the ferry port of Caen lies Oakwood. Deep in the Breton countryside Oakwood is a stunning four and a half acre tree lined lake created in 1862 for the local chateau and then left to elements for generations. It sits in its own secure and peaceful 19 acre grounds with its sheltered swims surrounded by aged oaks, stands of mature trees and masses of colourful rhododendrons.
If you were brought up on a diet of Bernard Venables, Dick Walker and Chris Yates you will love Oakwood. Nestled in a quiet valley, surrounded by woodland, with lilies forming tempting bays and providing a haven for the carp. It’s everything you will have dreamed of.
Les, Phil & Adam fished here in April 2011 taking 16 x 20's and 7 x 30's to 37lb 4oz. Their comments were;
“Enjoyed the visit, an excellent week. Nice fish, good owners and the food was fantastic every night. Bang on, see you next year!”
The week before Bill Holcombe had fished the lake taking 10 x 20's and 2 x 30's. Here are his comments;
“Food was excellent, home cooked means home cooked & very well too. Breakfast baguettes were awesome! Stay near your rods as all the takes were one-toners! I think the fish have been fed on steroids... they fight like demons and take off like trains as soon as they feel the hook!”
Oakwood is perfect for getting away from everything... fishing France and taking in the beautiful surroundings.

Oakwood is a new carp fishery, having never been commercially fished before 2009.
It's a tree lined 4½ acre lake with an average depths of 5 to 6 feet which offers many attractive fish holding features including two islands. The lake bed is hard clay with some silt patches.
The banks are easily accessible and mainly laid to lawn with 6 purpose built swims, carefully selected to provide each one with interesting features. There is one large & one small island, with reeds & overhanging trees on all banks.
There’s also the option of double swims if you want to be more sociable.
The lake accommodates 5 anglers maximum.

There’s around 130 carp present, the average size mid-twenties, with very few carp below 20lb. Oakwood contains some of the most amazing long linears you will ever see.
There are very few nuisance species and no poisson chat.
The most recent stocking occurred in November 2010 when a further 30 carp were stocked, all the fish were between 25 - 41lb. They were a mixture of mirror and common carp, all stunning fish and fast growers, being only 6 - 8 years old.
An unusual characteristic of the Oakwood fish is that, despite all the popular myths about French carp, they will take floaters, so go prepared and experience some arm wrenching action.

There’s a newly constructed toilet & shower block incorporating a hydrostatic shower - so if the aches and pains of hauling big fish gets too much, jump in the shower and have them massaged away!
There are electric points for charging phones and baitboats, plus there’s some space for frozen baits (please reserve freezer space in advance). Unhooking mats are provided and your litter bin will be changed daily for you.
The lake is English owned, and Dan and Cheryl live on-site and are therefore available for advice and you’ll find them very friendly and helpful. They are carp anglers and carried out all the recent development work themselves, so you can be sure they know every fish holding feature in the lake.
They sell bait, tackle, food & drinks on-site, and Cheryls home cooked meals are definitely an essential part of your stay. They are open 52 weeks of the year, offering some great winter rates too.
General;
The local village is just 5 minutes away and it has a good selection of shops, bars & a supermarket, everything you could possible need for your stay.
If you plan on bringing your partner, and have promised some days out, the coast is only a 75 minute drive. The coastal towns of Nantes & Saint Nazaire offer lots to do as well as great beaches... or alternatively perhaps a shopping trip into Rennes, only a 30 minute drive away.
