About the Lake

The open grassy banks are sloping and steep in places but at summer water levels this poses no problem at all. The Point area that comes out in to the lake is flat enough for a group of anglers to bivvy up on, giving access to virtually the whole lake and allowing for a great social.

The lake is limited to 5 anglers maximum when on a non-exclusive basis. When booking the lake exclusively for your group you can take up to 8 anglers (but we'd recommend less, so you have more room to move around).

You can drive your vehicles down to the lake in dry weather, but if the ground is wet/soft then they will need to be parked behind the facilities cabins.

Throughout the year the lake can change in depth quite dramatically as it is fed directly by the water table. The nearby River Aisne often floods in the winter months and while it never floods into the lake it does raise the water table considerably, sometimes by as much as 3 metres. Consequently the banks can look quite different in early spring or after very prolonged periods of rain and the central Point area can become submerged. However, during normal weather conditions water levels remain constant and during the summer months the lake depths vary from a few centimetres in the shallows to around 2 metres.

The lake has a fairly uniform and firm bottom but there are some occasional snags.

There is weed, most noticeably later on in the season after the hotter months, and you can utilise the lake's rowing boat to help navigate this.

There might be a few poisson chat and crayfish, but the bigger catfish feed on them which over many years has always controlled the population, so they don't seem to cause any issues for anglers at all.

If you want to avoid the catfish in the lake then we recommend fishing using tigernuts as a hookbait.
