How much bait do we need?
As a rough guide, we advise around 5kg boilies and 5kg of Pellet or 8kg Particle per person per week. Please also note that the maximum Pellet allowed per party for the week is 25kg.
What bait do you recommend?
Fishmeal based and spicy flavoured boilies work well across the board – Carp, Cats, warm weather and cooler periods. Our boilies all contain fishmeal to lesser or greater degree depending on flavour and are rolled to order on request, we need 4 weeks’ notice to have them ready for your arrival. Please find more information on the 'bait' tab.
Can I get more boilies during the week if I run out?
Whilst our boilies are rolled to order, we do keep a minimal amount of additional stock on hand but can’t guarantee the flavours.
What is the earliest we can arrive?
arrival after 14:00
Can we fish the stock lake – Lake William?
Short answer – it depends. Generally speaking, we have no problem with fishing on the stock lake, but from time to time it may be necessary to limit access.
Is my UK carp set-up suitable for use at your lake?
Yes a normal UK set-up will be adequate.
What hook size do you recommend and what breaking strain of main line do you recommend?
Since opening we have seen several anglers losing many fish before they manage to land them… this is often down to hooks being too small. Having a light set-up will look much less conspicuous, but it’s doing you no favours if you don’t land many of those hard earned runs.
What is the surface of the swims - can I use bank sticks?
Most swims on the main lake are decked but it is possible to use bank sticks to the sides of the pontoons, or on un-decked swims (Dam Wall / BBQ Corner). It is possible to use bank sticks on the stock lake.
Are any special tactics required?
We always do a walk around with our guests and let them know where fish came out the previous week and what worked or didn’t for the previous party. Back-leads will give you a good advantage as they help pin the lines down reducing angling pressure.
Where is the nearest tackle shop?
The nearest tackle shop is defi-peche.com in Ploërmel and is about a 35min car ride away. Details are in the book at the Farmhouse.
Do you recommend use of a bait boat?
Whilst it is possible to cast relatively easily to all fishable areas, a bait boat does give an undeniable advantage in terms of accuracy and stealth.
Can I drive up onto the bank to unload?
You can park your vehicle right by the gates and the lakes are just a few meters through the gates, but it is not possible to drive up onto the banks. There is a carp barrow to hand if you need one.
Is the lake secure? Can we leave our gear on the bankside if we go out?
The lake complex is fenced and gated with a combination lock, and is as secure as we can make it, but of course you leave items unguarded at your own risk.
Can we drink the tap water?
Our water supply is on mains (not well water) and we drink the water at the farmhouse without any problems, and whilst the water at the cabin is the same water, we would say that was non potable as it is stored. Bottled water is available at the local supermarket if you are at all worried.
Do you have UK plug sockets?
We have an English extension lead in the dining area at the Farmhouse for charging battery packs etc. If you think you’ll need more than that, you will need to bring adaptors. There are no power sockets on the cabin.
Do you supply bedding and towels?
We supply bedding for beds at the Farmhouse but not the cot, if you have requested it. We supply tea towels for the kitchen and we also put out a hand towel and bath mat in the shower room, but you will need to bring your own bath towels. We do not supply bath towels.
Can I sleep in the accommodation whilst my rods are out?
No, the farmhouse accommodation is a short walk away (approx 500m)
Is there a food package available?
Yes, the food package consists of breakfast and an evening meal. Please find more information on the 'meals' tab. Just let me know before and we can arrange that.
How far are the nearest shops?
We have a book at the Farmhouse that shows where all the local supermarkets, patisseries, bar tabacs, and pharmacies etc. are, but most are less than 10mins away by car.
Do you offer WiFi?
No, WiFi is not available here. Fibre hasn't quite made it this far into the wilds, and anything we've tried to offer has been disappointing.
Can I get mobile phone coverage at the lake?
You can usually get good 3/4G both at the lake and outside the Farmhouse, but you need to make sure to turn on roaming before leaving the UK.
