*New For 2018*

If you prefer your lakes wild and natural then Salles is the one for you. Spanning 42 acres, the lake is reed lined and truly beautiful, set away from any roads. The 6 double swims are well spaced out around the venue and offer plenty of water for a maximum of 10 anglers (or 12 if booked exclusively).

Thankfully the facilities are a little less wild and natural with even gravelled swims, a modern sanitary block and cooked meals available on site. There is also the option of a little more comfort in the form of a new wooden cabin sat behind swim 2, sleeping two, or the mobile home behind swim 3 which sleeps three. Find out more about these facilties under the 'facilities' tab.

This is not a runs water and perhaps not ideal for those daunted by open water, but it is a fantastic opportunity to fish an unpressured and authentic French carp fishing lake with pristine carp to over 50lb. There is a proportion of smaller carp stocked to increase competition, so be prepared to catch carp of all sizes, however last year also saw 25 different carp over 40lb.

Swims are booked in advance at Salles so you'll need to decide which swim you'd like when you book.  You can find plenty of information on each under the 'Lake' tab.

French Carp Fishing at Salles

The lake bed is composed of clay and quite thick silt in places. Finding a clean and hard zone on the clay gives the best results. Otherwise the bottom is quite uniform and there are very few snags. A relatively shallow lake, particularly in the summer months. The depth is generally around 3ft with the deepest spots (out in front of swim 4) reaching to 6ft.

There have been no issues with poisson chat or crayfish. There are some weed beds and our field testers report that they think a baitboat or boat is very beneficial on this lake.

All six swims are doubles. Swims are booked in advance at Salles so you'll need to decide which swim you'd like when you book. There is vehicle access to all swims and it is possible to park a campervan/caravan behind swims 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Swim 1

To the front of you there is a large bank of reeds at 200m. On the right and left you can fish under the overhanging bushes. A deep zone is located at 120m on your left between 1 and 2 in open water.

Swim 2

There are reeds on your left, overhanging willows on the right bank and plenty of open water. The reeds in front of you (at around 250m) are a good place to fish towards. Try staying between 10 to 50m of the bank. The wooden lodge accommodation (optional to hire) sits behind this swim. This swim is closest to the facilities.

Swim 3

There is an attractive reed line down the left hand margins and this swim also has a large amount of water to the centre of the lake. A root is located on your left and marked by an orange marker. This swim has less shade but the mobile home (optional to hire) sits around 50m away.

Swim 4

This swim offers lots of options. With reeds to both the left and right there is a lot of marginal water that can be fished and access to a shaded channel (during the hottest months this is a great spot). It's also the deepest zone of the lake, approximately 2m in depth.

The swim has some shade during the early part of the day on the right hand side and also shade at the back of the swim some 20 yards away.

Swim 5

This is probably the most beautiful swim of the lake, reeds and willows overhang the lake within easy reach on your right and left hand side. Access to this swim is via a narrow walkway around 30 metres in length. The large double swim has little shade but does command the reed lines to the left and some to the right as well as a lot of open water. The water here is shallower than the rest of the lake but is often seen to hold a lot of carp.

Swim 6

This feels the wildest and most remote swim, located in the very top corner of the lake. On the left you'll see some overhanging bushes where you will find deeper water, to the front of you is a reed lined margin at approx 80m. You have easy access here to the little bay behind you where carp come often (as long as you stay quiet). Easy to fish and plenty of features within casting distance, so boat or bait boat not necessary. Similar to swim 5 this swim is built well out into the water and you access the platform via a narrow walkway.

Here are a few tips from owner Thibault;

All baits seem to work on the lake on the lake, with some flavours looking preferable;

Tiger nuts
Pacific tuna (CC Moore)
Squid (specially squid pop-up)
Pineapple
Banana (banofee from mainline)

Leads ideally want to be 50-70g (or in windy conditions 90-100g). Bottom line 25 cm seems to be better than the classic 12 or 15cm because of the mud on the bottom. For this reason also it appears better to fish on a snowman to unstick it from the bottom.

You are better to start with just a little bait and the smaller hook baits do better - 10-15mm, 20mm is ok, but not more!

The carp really follow the wind so listen to the bailiff for advice on how to tackle this French carp fishing lake on arrival.

A 0lb Carp from Salles

There are approximately 450 carp in the lake. This continues to grow as additional stock is handpicked by Thibault and added every autumn. The average weight sits at mid twenties with the lake record mirror and common both over 50lb. You'll see some lovely linears and fully scaled mirrors.

You will also find a small population of grass carp between 11 to 25lb which take care of the weed.

There are only carp, pike, roach, tench & perch. No bream, catfish or poisson chat. If you're interested in pike fishing you're welcome to use another rod for this.

Facilities at Salles

The facilities sit closest to swim 2. There is a small sanitary block with running water, WC and shower. There is a fridge for your baits and food, a chest freezer for bait and there are also power points to recharge your batteries and mobile phones here too.

The furthest swims from the facilities are 4, 5 and 6. Swim 5 is around 540m away (approximately a 5 minute walk), swim 6 around 330m away and swim 4 around 280m away.

Boat Hire

You are welcome to bring your own boat or you can hire a boat at the lake (with optional motor too). There is limited availability on the boats so if you intend to hire one please contact the owner ASAP (their details will be made available to you on your 'info pack' once your holiday is booked).

Boat hire €50 per week
Engine hire €50 per week

Please note that life jackets are provided when you hire a boat and must be worn at all times when on the water.

Optional Accommodation Options

The wooden chalet sits less than 30 metres behind swim 2 so it is an ideal place to use instead of a bivvy if you wish. The chalet has its own bedroom with 2 single beds and a small separate kitchen with refrigerator, electric kettle, microwave, hotplate and a utensils cabinet. There is electricity but no sink/water supply.

There is also a small veranda to the front with a table and 2 chairs. The toilets and showers are shared with the other anglers and located at the reception area approximately 50m away.

The mobile home sits around 50 metres behind swim 3. Again, this is very basic but clean with water and electricity. There is a double bedroom, one single bedroom, a small dining area and kitchen area with cooker and sink. Basic cutlery and dishes are provided.

The toilets and showers are shared with the other anglers and located at the reception area approximately 50m away.

Caravan/Campervans
If you wanted to bring a caravan then there is room to park up behind swims 1, 2, 3 and 4. However please note there is no electric hook-up.

Tackle Shop Onsite

A small tackle shop is on site in case you need any small items for fishing, rigs etc. The supermarket is in the local village, so only a short distance away.
