!!!!!!!!!!!!!70lb’er marks opening week at Laroussi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Angling Lines venue Laroussi starts every year with a bang… and this year’s been no exception with a rake of big fish captures topped by the new lake record mirror “Big Cheeks” at 70lb 2oz.

The monster mirror was caught by Jason Baker from Exeter on April 1st – and it certainly wasn’t an April fool’s joke. He was fishing “La Pointe” swim and placed a birdfood boilie 10m from the far bank in 3m of water. Jason takes up the story;

“At 5.30am I had a slow take which then developed into a one toner. I pulled into it and the fish shot off around 50m down the lake. The fight was slow & ponderous until it saw our headlights when it went mental! However, after a few scares she slipped into the net. Once on the scales I couldn’t believe it... the needle was bouncing between 70 & 71lb but after much checking we can definitely say it weighed in at 70lb 2oz. I was one happy chap!

The previous 3 nights, I had been using my Korda throwing stick to get 3 or 4kg of boilies out to my mark on the far margin but on the Monday I placed 10kg of parti blend, plus 4mm trout pellets with a squirt of Mainline hempseed oil and a few boilies matched to the hookbait. The rest as they say is history.

In Devon, my PB was a 25.04 from syndicate water near Exeter but that pales into insignificance compared to this beauty.”

This wasn’t the only big fish in the week as there were further mirrors of 52lb (bringing the known total to 10 different 50’s) and 49lb plus a fantastic common of 44lb to Samantha Collins.

Scales, please !

Last week , Mr Bennett's Team had a good week. One of his mates, Karl Gallagher, caught a new lake record catfish which bottomed his scale (100lb) while his friend landed another 70lb cat. Well done !

I would like to ask to every future customer to try to bring a big scale. Most of the angler's scales go up to 60lb but there are 3 different species over 60lb : carp, sturgeon and catfish.
Very often, anglers can't weigh their catches properly because of the scales. It has happened a lot of times this season, we will never know the exact weight of some fish caught(some are once a year fish).
So please try to bring a big scale. 120lb scale should be ok except for the big catfish uncaught since 2 years at 96lb(read the story in the news, it's estimated between 120 to 140lb).

Thank you very much and tight Lines!

Combo carp/catfish fight !

I was fishing from the left side of the 'le plage' swim on laroussi, it was the sixth night of our holiday and the fishing had been quite hard due to the weather allthough we had all caught some very nice fish upto 62lb. The wind had turned west slightly, a subtle change but the difference in lake activity was very apparent with fish crashing an moving alot more all over. As darkness fell i was getting more an more confident and with all the movement i just new it was only a matter of time. Plastic corn fished with an oily stick over particles etc was the trap and at 2am the right hand rod fished at 90m on a gravel hump was screaming away. As i lifted into the fish my Century fbs 3.5lb tc arced round and the fight was on. Twenty minutes later the mirror was tamed and photo's taken, she went 45lb well pleased i was and got the baits back out there quickly for more action. Confidence was sky high and i decided i was staying up watching my rods with the odd brew to keep me awake. Little did i know what was about to happen..!

At 4am the right rod was away again, lifting into the fish it felt heavy and after gaining a dozen or so turns of the reel everything went slack. Thinking i had pulled out of the fish i cursed as you do and lowered the rod when all of a sudden the rod bent round to the max and the clutch ticked away, applying pressure with my finger on the spool the 3.5lb fbs was in full curve but there was no stopping him, 100yrds at least was stripped from the reel, the fight of my life had began. Every time distance was gained on the fish he kept turning me and was off again, the fbs cushioning every lunge, time ticked on and my mates were now all up and watching this battle, my back was killing me, full pressure was on the rod but this thing on my line would not tire. It crossed my mind that this was no carp i was fighting. After 2 hours i still had'nt seen the fish, i'd had him 10m from the bank and seen swirls but just could not surface him. A change of plan was needed so in the water i went upto my waist i waded round the large bushy tree on my right and into my friend Rod's peg. His peg was wide and shallow and my idea was to walk the fish back up the grassy bank and attempt to beach this animal of a fish. Everything was working now to plan and the fish was tiring, i felt for the first time i was gaining the upper hand. With the fish only metres from the bank now in only 2ft of water i sent 2 of my mates in to get round the back of it with landing nets. As they got close to it i felt a change in tension on the rod and 1 of them shouted 'its a carp' followed by 'jesus what the hell is that' as a massive swirl boiled up next to his legs. Then the rod went heavy again as this 'thing' grabbed the carp once more only to let go seconds later. Large waves and boils washed against the bank as the predator made of into the lake and the carp was landed. At last the battle was over. We all were amazed at what had happened. The carp had been taken by a massive catfish that would not let go.

the carp weighed 43lb 8oz, it had scratch marks down both sides from a good third of its body to its tail and some scales missing. We treated its wounds with klinic after taking some photos and released her back into the lake letting her swim off when strong enough......I was shattered 2.5hours of battle i had the cat beaten an would of landed it if it had held on a bit longer all done on Century FBS 3.5lb tc rods and 15lb line.

Talking to Mehdi that afternoon there is only one cat big enough to be the culprit and this was last caught 2 years ago at 97lb, he had estimated it to be 120lb now in weight but now we think its alot bigger than that to be able to take a 43lb carp.

Difficult conditions... but great fish!

Hi all at Angling Lines,

Just finished a week at Larrousi and was lucky enough to have one of the large mirrors that reside there.

The week started with horrendous weather and gale force winds which stopped me fishing as I would have liked. My mate Alec and I managed to draw the point swims but with the winds blowing from left to right and bringing weed rafts with it made fishing almost impossible.

By Wednesday things had calmed down and with renewed confidence started fishing as I wanted to.

Well it didn't take long and within the hour had this fish on the mat. 53lbs spot on and one happy angler. I had another of 35lb+ and Al managed a 30 but that was it for the week.

Medhi asked if I would forward the pictures and then for you to send them to him, not the nicest looking carp I have caught but very welcome.

Will be in touch later.

Be lucky, Pete Dawson.

Another big fish week at Laroussi !

During the week 31 march to 7 avril 2007, Mr Underwood party had a fantastic week in Laroussi.
Indeed, the 6 anglers broke their 6 pb's... carp and sturgeon!

In less than 24h, they had 3 different fifties, plus another one at the end of the week at 56lb 8oz!

Mr Martin Underwood from Hampshire broke his pb sturgeon only a couple of hours after casting his rods with a 46lb. Then, during the first night, he landed a superb 50lb 6oz which is a new personnal best ( previous was 38lb10oz) and a new fifty for laroussi!

His son, Matthew smashed also his pb twice with a 41lb 4oz and a 48lb 7oz.

His friend Steve Rayner from Broadbridge Health, fishing another swim, bagged a deep bodied 51lb 5oz mirror which broke also his personnal best ( previous 49lb 10oz).

Dave Hales from Surrey had also a excellent week : He smashed his pb's twice with a 52lb 2oz mirror following by a 56lb 8oz (previous pb was 49lb 8oz)

Mr J. Linch caught a 39lb 13oz pb mirror (previous pb was 39lb 11oz); Mr Buchonan had a 44lb 4oz pb mirror(previous pb was 44lb 2oz) and a 60lb+ pb sturgeon.

In total, they finished this excellent week with 14 mirrors for 42lb average with 4 different fifties to 56lb 8oz, 3 forties to 48lb 7oz , 6 thirties to 39lb 13oz and a 26lb.

The weather conditions were not very good for fishing with a cold northwind and cold temperature at night. Congratulations !

During the same week, Mr Shipman party fishing Old Oaks had also a very good time. The 5 anglers broke theirs 5 pb's : a 35lb 2oz common for Dod, a 27lb 4oz for Charlie , a 28lb for Westie, a 28lb for Floppy and a 29lb for Gat.

They had a total of 28 mirror all between 21lb and 29lb with only 2 doubles.

So , during this fantastic week, the complex produced 13 new personnal best (8 for Laroussi and 5 for Old Oaks) for 11 anglers.

Well done to everybody!

Here's the comments from Mr Dave Hales;

" Awesome week fishing, quality not quantity"

Mr Steve Rayner said;

" beautiful lake, owner very helpfull, excellent facilities"

Mr Underwood said;

" Great venue, great fish, great week"

The 51lb 5oz and the 26lb mirror were caught with Quest Rahja spice boilies.

What an opening week!

Guess what – Laroussi starts with a sixty again!
For the third year on the trot Laroussi has had a fantastic opening week which saw 1 x 60 and 2 x 50’s on the bank.

Lee Timberlake from Aylesbury, Bucks, landed the 61lb 8oz beauty on the 12th March at 10pm then followed it up with the 57lb’er on the 14th at 2am. He was fishing "La Pointe" swim with Pineapple and Fish Edge baits, offering 40 chopped boilies, pellets and around 6 handfuls of red maggot.

But it wasn’t just Lee who had a good time. His mate Barry Cory broke his PB twice, starting with a mirror of 34lb and then an immaculate mirror of 51lb!

So the 2007 season opens… and it’s business as usual on Laroussi!

An Overview of our 2007 results!

Firstly, we wish a happy new year 2007 to every anglers and especially good health.

Many thanks to all our customers who spent time with us in 2006, respected our rules and made for such a good atmosphere at the venue. We had many repeat bookings, with many regulars; this is the best proof you can offer to us, that we are on the right track.

The 2006 season has been an excellent fishing year with plenty of pb’s broken everyweek! From March to November most of the weeks saw forties coming out with plenty of high thirties.

Some spectacular catches have been recorded: for example, Mr Mank and Mr Longman both caught 2 new fifties at 50lb 4oz , Mr Goodman broke his Pb mirror twice at 42lb 8oz and then with a huge mirror at 69lb 8oz – a fraction under 70'lber - a new lake record!

Mr Dobbs caught a 34lb 4oz, 43lb 3oz, 48lb 4oz, 49lb, 57lb 12oz and a 58lb ! in the same week
totaling, for his party 18 mirrors for a fantastic 40lb 12oz average weight!

Mr Blake managed a new sixty at 60lb 2oz, Mr Morris broke the lake and french record brown back sturgeon with a monster of 71lb 3oz, Mr Raoul had 2 runs at the same time and netted 2 big catfish at 70lb and 76lb, awesome!

Mr Martin party caught a record of 53 fish in a week, including a lake record grass carp at 43lb 12oz and a 56lb mirror.

Mr Woltman caught 2 fifties at 50lb and 58lb, Mr Hodder broke the lake record koï at 18lb, Mr Chawner finally had his dream come true : in the shape of a 59lb8oz mirror while his brother managed some forties, etc.....

However, Mr Naylor had the most amazing result catching 2 differents sixties during the same week at 60lb and 60lb 6oz ! Since last year, he has caught 4 different sixties! Awesome! Congratulations!

The average size of the mirrors landed this season has also been very high : between 30lb and 35lb, with several anglers having an incredible week’s average at 40lb 12oz and 41lb 3/4.

The catfish weight’s have been also very impressive: indeed, the smallest out this season was 64lb! The monster however, avoided capture but snapped up many lines.... it was 96lb in 2005, so we bet it will top 110lb + in 2007.

We saw some very big grass carp on the top during the summer, with one particular specimen uncaught estimated at 50lb !

The fish growth rates have not slowed down: the catfish stocked in 2005 between 40lb and 50lb, have been caught at 64lb , 68lb , 69lb, 71lb and 76lb in 2006 ! A carp whose weight in 2005 was 36lb topped 50lb in 2006!

Many high thirties will break the 40lb barrier soon and will increase the already high number (around 30+) different 40lb fish. We expect also the higher forties ( 46lb,47lb,48lb and 49lb) to make it into the fifties, to add to the 5 known specimens. We also hope the 2 high fifties will produce new sixties!

Some surprise fish have also been caught this year for example a huge eel of 1.40m, a 22lb pike, a 2lb 3/4 roach, a 7lb crucian carp, a 2lb 3/4 perch and a 2lb 8oz crucian koï ...

Here is the table with the record weight per species to beat :

Mirror : 69lb 8oz Linear : 35lb
Catfish : 96lb Fully scaled : 38lb 8oz
Grass carp : 43lb 12oz Two tone : 39lb
Sturgeon : 71lb 3oz Ghost common : 22lb
Common : 44lb Orange Koï : 18lb
Leather : 50lb 4oz Crucian carp : 7lb

We want also explain to our future customers Laroussi is not an easy run water, but a challenging, big fish water. You must work hard, use quality baits and be patient to hook them.
You never catch loads of fish but you can expect to catch some true monsters! Each run can be a 70lb+ carp, sturgeon or catfish and maybe a 40lb grass carp.... so please to avoid the problem some faced in 2006 & bring a bigger set of scales of at least 120lb... 60lb is not enough! You’ll need a good antisceptic such as Klinik and a large good quality unhooking mat. These points are only to protect our fish and not to bother you.

Baitboats :

We would like to point out that baitboats are only allowed when there is an exclusive booking of the whole lake. Due to reliability problems, we have sold our 2 Lakestar baitboats. We are building 2 new baitboats for the coming season. They will be available from Mid March.

Winter improvements :

During the winter, we have worked hard to improve the fishery. We had promised during 2006, some improvement and we are at the moment working on these.

Laroussi :
Like the previous winter, we have planted some new trees : weeping willows in some pegs ie:
“La Plage”, “L’Anse” and “Les 2 Saules” so anglers will have more shade during the hotter months of the summer. In total, there are 17 new big trees around the lake.

We have extended “Les 2 Saules” swim and dug 2 steps to facilitate the landing and releasing. It is much more confortable now.

A big part of the fence has been changed between “La Pointe” and “le Haut fond”.

Old Oaks :

We have brought in more earth to some pegs to avoid the rain damage problem and cut down some of the old and dead trees.

New fish stock :

During the first week of january, we received some new fish stock for both lakes : Laroussi and Old Oaks.

We have carefully selected each fish... young, fast growing, different shapes and scales patterns has been released.

In Old Oaks, 4 new big mirrors: a superb heavily scaled carp of 37lb; another long 37lb’er and 2 forties at 40lb and 42lb (lake record!) So now, anglers will have runs and runs and the chance to catch a lump!

In Laroussi to complete the excellent existing fish stock, quality virgin fish have been stocked.
250kg of babies grass carp will regulate the weed problem. (Please if you catch some of these young grass carp, carefully release them straight away and don’t use them for live baits for the catfish...)

2 new big catfish of 44lb and 48lb will help the others cats to regulate the silver fish population. (You can use a fourth light rod to float fish for the coarse species but please don’t release them... keep them alive in a keepnet)

Finally, 11 lovely carp have rejoined the depths of Laroussi : 4 good mirror of 33lb , 34lb , 34lb 8oz and 37lb ; 7 common between 22lb and 32lb including a magnificient ghost carp and a golden one. The cheery on the cake was a amazing perfectly conditioned common of 44lb !!!

We hope all these details will improve the comfort of your holiday and will satisfy you.

Thanks you very much
Happy new year with plenty of carp

Record Week at Laroussi!!!

What a week !!! From the 29th July to 5th August, The Old Oaks and Laroussi fishing has been awesome. The weather conditions were much better with cooler temperatures, a lot of grey cloud, strong winds and rain. Perfect to switch on the fish!

Mr Martin's party was fishing Laroussi: they had the record number of fish caught in a week - 53. Topped by a 56lb mirror (Pb for Brian). Brian had also his Pb grass carp at 31lb 8oz and sturgeon at 57lb 8oz. They had also 2 x forties at 45lb 2oz and 42lb (Pb for Steve), 19 x thirties to 39lb, 8 x twenties and 15 x doubles. Nick had a new lake record grass carp at 43lb 12oz and his personnal best mirror at 34lb. 7 big sturgeon have been caught to 60lb+

The other very good news is all the fish are spawned out. They will pile on weight about 5 or 6lb for the winter so the 7 high thirties will top the 40lb barrier very soon....

Well done mates!

During the same time, Mr Bowler's party also broke another record on Old Oaks! The previous record fish number of fish caught in a week was 65 by Mr Daniel Laughton-Zimmerman in April. They had fast and furious action and hauled 96 fish including; 4 x thirties and an amazing 74 x twenties! Again, all the fish are spawned out so we can think 28 of the good twenties will top the 30lb barrier very soon.

So (96+53).... 149 fish caught in a week between Laroussi and Old Oaks making it a new complex record !

Total weight for Old Oaks: 2,249lb - average 23lb+

Total weight for Laroussi: 1,564lb, average 33lb+

Total weight for the complex : 3,813lb+

New unhooking mats for Laroussi and Old Oaks

Fish care is very important for us here at Laroussi. So we have bought an excellent quality mat for every swim on the lakes. The big difference between these mats and the standard mats is the boat shape... it is like a mini-paddling pool. Measuring 1.28m length by 70cm wide makes a very safe environment for the handling of the fish. So now you can save space in your car and feel confident when handling the fish on the bank. Don’t forget to wet the mats well before use.

Thank you

Wayne Naylor on his second trip to the fabulous Laroussi venue in northern France, and on only his second visit to France, does it again by landing his second sixty from the lake.

The massive mirror which tipped the scales at a whacking 63lb 2oz picked up Wayne’s tiger nut boilie fished with rapid break down pellets and just five free offerings, from the ‘Le Chene swim’ - the same peg that was the scene of his success last time round.

The take came at 2am during freezing conditions on March 17th with strong northerly winds that saw thermometer dip to around -5°C. With the water itself barely getting above 4°C, the fishing has been hard to say the least and this fantastic fish has so far been the only carp of the trip. He has however, banked two sturgeon of 47lb & 57lb from the same mark.

Yorkshire based carper Wayne, had previously landed his first sixty of 63lb 8oz during his first ever trip to France in October last year. During the same session his fishing partner Glenn Swaby beat the Laroussi record with another giant mirror of 65lb.

Christened ‘Mr Sixty’ by lake Owner Mehdi Daho the carp is the first of the year at the venue. What a start to the season!
