News from Beaurepaire lake
Sep 2014
Beau 'repaired', 10th Sep
Pardon the pun but we are so pleased to see Beaurepaire bouncing back after a virus. After last weeks catches we were eager to see what this week of fishing would bring.
Due to a late cancellation only one angler went to the lake this week and he sadly had to make an early return today being recalled home due to a serious family illness. However, he has kindly reported his catch for the 3 days fished, which was already 17 carp to 45lb, 5 grass carp to 33lb & several catfish to 80lb!
He admits also to losing a few fish and found it necessary to alter his rigs to get the carp. He said the carp were fighting well and showing in both bays, so all things considered, they are back on the munch now.
This is great news not only for the anglers but for Bernard the owner too, a gentle man who loves his carp and was devastated to have let anglers down during the convalescence of the lake.

The Testers Have Returned!, 21st Aug
Beaurepaire was test fished for 3 days earlier this week and the two anglers caught between them; 5 carp to 45lb, 5 grass carp to 29lb and 5 catfish. 1 carp had some marks on it’s body and all the others were in good condition (this may or may not have been due to the virus).
Clearly the assessment of the lake is subjective. However, on balance we have decided to rest the lake for a further two weeks to make absolutely sure the carp are 100% healthy and fully recovered. Whilst the field testing results were positive, we do not want to risk the health of the carp or experience of our customers at this time. We fully expect the lake to be open again for w/c 6th September.
Any further news will be updated as it happens.

Lake to Re-Open, 6th Aug
The last dead carp to surface was 8 days ago (July 28th) so the owner, Bernard, is confident the problems are now over. Around 40 carp have died, which is of course a real disappointment. However, this represents a relatively small proportion of the very high stocking density the lake contains (that's why it's so popular as a runs water) and Bernard is confident the fishing will be unaffected. Consequently the lake will re-open on the 23rd of August.
Bernard has asked us to pass on his thanks to the groups who have moved off the lake over the last few weeks. It's been extremely upsetting for him and he's grateful that everyone has been so understanding.
As always, we will keep you updated of any further developments, but let's hope this is the end of a distressing period in Beaurepaire's history.

Beaurepaire Update, 1st Aug
Beaurepaire has been closed for the last two weeks after several dead carp were found in the margins. Whilst the rate of deaths has slowed significantly, Bernard, the owner, found another dead carp yesterday. This means that in total around 30+ carp have died and we now sadly believe it may have been a virus.
Bernard is still awaiting the results of a post mortem on the dead carp, but is quite rightly putting the health of his carp first and wants to give the lake a rest before re-opening. Reluctantly he has therefore asked us to cancel the next 2 weeks anglers. Both groups have been contacted and offered alternative venues or a full refund.
Fingers X'd that the worst is now over. We will keep you updated.
