The Carp House

About the Lake

The 5-acre lake has depths ranging from 1.5 meters at the dam wall and gradually increasing to over 3 meters in the middle of the lake (at normal water levels). Past the island you'll find the much shallower top end, which is why the main swim is positioned to the left of the island, giving the best access to the most productive areas of the lake.

The main swim is large and gravel based, with a couple of bark areas for placing your rods. There's a small wooden pontoon at the middle of the swim to aid in landing fish. This area is designed for 2 or 3 anglers, although you can position yourself elsewhere if you wish. You can night fish whilst sleeping in the accommodation, due to it's proximity to the swim, or alternatively you're welcome to bivvy up.

Landing nets, landing mats and weigh slings are provided free of charge and there are two weighing stands. There is also a rowing boat and life jackets provided.

In terms of snags, you'll find deep overhangs on the island and in the margins. There is some weed, particularly in the shallow end of the lake, and patches of lilies, so anglers should be comfortable fishing with these features. You will however find plenty of hard gravel patches too.

The lake, like many in France, is home to some crayfish. So we recommend going prepared just in case they make themselves known (often more so in the summer months) - you can find lots of information here for combatting crayfish in France. There are no poisson chat to our knowledge.

Vehicle access is good with a gravel track taking you from the gate to the lakeside lodge, where there is ample parking. The lake is fully fenced.

Boat Motor Hire

A rowing boat and life jackets are provided free of charge. However, a motor and battery can be hired at an additional cost of 10e per day / 70e for the week. Please contact the owner directly once booked if you wish to reserve this.
