Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Boilies over hemp.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Yes. Great. Hot shower. Clean toilet. Excellent freezer and fridges.

Were you happy with them?

Yes. Just perfect for drive and survive.

Would you recommend the venue to a friend?

100%. Close to Calais. Beautiful wild lake. Got loads of fantastic fish in.

Would you recommend the services to a friend?

Absolutely. After twenty years of using Angling lines we met Bridget who was on a tour of the lakes. Honest company. Removes all the worry of lake owners who lie and there are loads of them.

General Comments:

Read other comments with a pinch of salt. There was absolutely no weed. we did not see a single rat. Sounds like rising waters may have driven them out of holes. The lake was a reasonable level. Do not go there if you want log lines marked out swims it is more wild than that and that is its charm.

General Comments:

Got told the lake was loosing water as it had been flooded, it lost about 2-3inches of water in a week the lake was about 10ft higher in water than it should have been, and very muddy nearly lost the van in the lake as I parked the van where I was told and it slid in the lake. The owner said she would bring us water but didn’t return. Left with no running water for 24hrs, when we rang the lake owner she said she would send someone but only at night, not good when your full of mud and can’t clean yourself. Not a very good lake or well run, the excess water should have been pumped out so we could fish, very disappointed with the trip I will be avoiding this lake in future.
*Angling Lines note* Thank you for sharing your feedback - we really appreciate it. As we mention on the lake information page, water levels can naturally vary a lot throughout the year since the lake is fed directly by the water table. We completely understand that the higher levels during your visit change where you can comfortably access with your vehicle and fish. That’s why we reached out ahead of time to give you a heads-up and suggest coming prepared for wet conditions. We also kept the number of anglers limited to three that week in hopes of making things a bit more comfortable for everyone. A kettle is provided for hot water in the kitchen, we've now updated the website to make that clearer—thank you for bringing it to our attention.
*Owner note* We are really so sorry for the water tank running out during one of the days, we try our best to respond quickly and we were able to refill this after 6pm on the same day.

Would you recommend the venue to a friend?

No I wouldn’t, poor facilities, no hot water to wash up in the kitchen had to use shower, completely flooded, was told drastically dropping, it didn’t after a week dropped a foot at best. Ran out of water was told to wait till evening so couldn’t clean flush toilet or wash up.

General Comments:

I'll start with the positives:
Sophie is a lovely person, showers nice and hot. Angling lines support at venue.

Negatives:
Transparency from lake owners to angling lines, there is a big difference between (muddy under foot) which is the message we got 2 days before trip to actually flooded when we turned up. EVERY venue should have a Facebook page to keep anglers up to date on venues unless they have something to hide! Far far too many cats in there not one carp topped all week so I do question the amount of carp in there.
6 people on 7 acres where there isn't any defined pegs? Really.
As previously mentioned in other reviews the amount of rats is unbelievable.
*Angling Lines comment* thank you for your feedback. The water levels fluctuate a lot on this venue throughout the year however, you are correct that this particular week the level caught us off guard which is why it was reduced to a maximum of 4 anglers on your week. We are however really sorry to hear how tough the fishing was, it is extremely unusual for anglers to not catch any carp (and the lake stock has not changed). Update February 2025 - To help manage rodents this year, plastic food storage boxes and closed rubbish bins will be provided. An ultra sound device will also be installed in the kitchen to repel rats and mice.
