General Comments:
What an amazing family holiday! Although my husband was there for the fishing, this trip ended up being so much more than that. We caught 38 fish in total, including 10 smaller fish under 10lb that we put into the baby pond, with the remainder ranging from 20lb to 34lb. We landed two fish over 30lb and plenty of beautiful mid to high 20lb carp, so the fishing certainly didn’t disappoint. For context, Paul normally fishes Elphicks Fishery in Kent and is usually delighted if he catches five carp in a session, so to catch 38 fish during the week made the trip incredibly worthwhile.
As a family, we had an absolutely fantastic time. We managed to fit three bedchairs into our bivvy, which worked perfectly for us, so we barely used the cabin other than the facilities. The newly installed toilet, shower cubicle and hob were excellent and everything was clean and well maintained. I’m normally someone who likes their home comforts and we live in a large house, so I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about a fishing holiday. However, I genuinely never felt as though I was missing out on anything. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I took work with me and didn’t do a single bit because we were having too much fun.
We were initially a little nervous about the drive and travelling through the ports, but it was actually incredibly easy. Both the UK and French border staff were friendly and the whole journey was straightforward. The drive from the port to the lake was stress free and the French roads were fantastic. Not a single pothole in sight and, unlike many UK roads, they were a pleasure to drive on.
My daughter and I also used the lake as a base to explore the local area. We visited Le Mans and several nearby vineyards, all within an easy drive of the lake. One of the things we loved most was driving through the beautiful French towns and villages. They feel incredibly historic and picturesque, with the church often being the first thing you see as you enter the village. It felt like stepping back in time and added so much to the overall experience.
There is also a supermarket nearby and a fantastic bakery just a few minutes away, making it very easy to stock up on supplies. For any anglers wondering whether to bring their wives or families along, I would absolutely recommend it. I had a wonderful time with my husband and daughter and we made memories that will stay with us forever.
Thank you to the owners and Angling Lines for a brilliant holiday. We have already started talking about where we want to book next.
