Grassie Lake Record Broken again!!, 18th Aug

Well done to Jamie Norris-Green from Bradford who has managed to land the ‘Lake Record Grass Carp’

Jamie who describes himself as a relatively inexperienced angler tempted the 18lb silver beauty at 5 O’clock in the morning on Thursday the 18th of August from the Barbeque Corner with a Quest Baits 20mm Rahja Spice boilie fished over crushed Mango, Peach and Banana boilies and pellet.

He also managed to land a 26lb Mirror from the same area a few hours before the Record Breaker, and earlier in the week had a cracking 35lb mirror on the bank.

Once again, well done Jamie!

Lee Walker Lands the Men’s Lake Record Grass Carp!, 2nd Aug

Here for the week with his lovely wife Michelle, son Jack and daughter Elisha, Lee Walker, the butcher and caterer from Stone Staffordshire has managed to earn himself a personalized ‘Lake Record’ bottle of wine by bagging himself a Lake Record Grass Carp!

The silvery torpedo was landed from the reeds on Tuesday 2nd August at 11:15am and weighed in at 16lb 8ozs. The Grass Carp were originally stocked in about 4 years ago to take control of a potential weed problem, 24 fish were added to the lake and all were between 6 and 9 inches, for a herbivore species it’s surprising how fast they grow!

Lee’s son Jack (15) came close to claiming the ‘Juniors Lake Record Grassie’ with a 14lb specimen, just 8oz shy of the Current record. The fishing family has also managed to land another twelve fish to 29lb so far……. Well done Lee!!!

Wendy Gets the Ball Rolling!, 1st Aug

Having set out the Records to break last year, we have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the special someone to get the ball rolling on the Ladies Lake Record Common, and that someone is here this week!

The lovely Wendy Calthorpe, Nurse and mother of four from Tunbridge-Wells, here for the week with husband Steve, daughters Danni (16), Shana (9), and sons Ryan (12) and cute little baby Harvey (5 months), netted this new record breaker on 24th August at 21:45 from the Stalkers Corner using an MX3 boilie.

Well done Wendy. Enjoy the wine, you deserve it! :)

Spawning Stops for Superb Fishing!, 1st May

The Mead Party from the Basingstoke area have enjoyed some fabulous fishing here at La Gléhias over the last week; the four anglers managed to bank a staggering 42 Carp up to 36lb plus two Catfish to around 13lb. Jack Mead (16), who fished days only, went home a happy chappy with a new PB of a 22lb Mirror and caught his first Grassie too. Jack’s dad, Phil, managed to hook into one of the newly stocked smaller cats and also put a couple of 28’s in the net, despite only fishing four nights and the fish giving him a bit of a hard time of it as they didn’t seem to want to feed in the deep.

The Carp had threatened to spawn a couple of weeks ago when around 10-15 fish started to thrash around in the margins; with the temperatures unseasonably high for April, the water seemed to get a bit too hot to sustain the annual orgy and the fish’s amour quickly diminished. However, not all the carp got the memo and hung about in the reeded shallows waiting for things to take off again until a much needed torrential downpour stirred them all up into a feeding frenzy.

Having drawn lots at the beginning of the week, Trevor Bulpitt had first pick as to where to pitch his bivvy and decided on midway up Willow Walk. With Phil and Jack in the deep, Steve Hampton took the shallows and he and Trevor really struck gold with most takes coming from that end of the lake.

The anglers only fished 2 rods each for the most part of their stay so as to keep the angling pressure low and keep the fish on the feed. Steve also commented “at times, it would have been difficult to get a third rod out there!” - I know he was finding it difficult to catch some ‘zzzzz’s between fish!

Well done Lads,  Lee
