Looking Forward to 2011, 1st Jan
With all of the Christmas and New year celebrations out of the way the next thing we look forward to here at la Gléhias is the start of the 2011 Carp fishing season.
Firstly we would like to give a big thank you to all of our customers who visited us last year and made it special by leaving here with a big smile on their faces, we still get a huge kick out of seeing people landing their PB’s!
2010 kicked off in a big way with many new lake records being broken in the first few weeks of fishing, some weeks saw as many as 5 records being smashed! The lake responded incredibly well throughout considering the pressure was hard on it all year with most weeks fully booked with some times as many as 5 anglers on it at a time.
No one managed to land the big Cat last year (estimated to be around 70lb’s), though we are sure it was hooked several times throughout the year and lost; so the lake Cat record stands at 55lb 2oz which was set by Des Chapman here in April.
Approximately 23 more Catfish up to around 20lbs were gradually added throughout the second half of the season and these have seemed slow to respond to baiting as they settled in to their new environment, but hopefully we will see a big increase in catches of these beautifully ugly predators this year as they start packing on lots of weight.
Plans are also in place to steadily increase Carp stocks in Lake Lauren from the spring onwards with beautiful Koi growing on in Lake William, though Rob Dannatt who fished here in August 2010 might say that the fishing was busy enough with 32 big Carp coming out for him in his first week here!
The lake record Mirror increased in weight this year and is now up to 43lb 10oz which was landed in April by Roger Hemming who also managed to land the lake record Common at 36lb and lake record Grassie at 15lb 10oz all in the same week.
Hopefully we can get to see some more great fishing from our visiting anglers this year.
Good luck to all for 2011

First Ever Cat for Terry!, 22nd Aug
Terry Banyard of the Mackinlay Party landed a 52lb catfish at 4:00pm on Sunday the 22nd of August and has earned himself the “OAP’s Lake Record Catfish” award.
The Maniac Moggie came from under the big overhanging Willow on the Gorse bank and was taken on a half Chilli Chocolate boilie combined with a half Liver B8 Boilie.
In a difficult weeks fishing due to the weather being very up and down, the other lads in the party have enjoyed seeing several other Carp and Cats on the bank to around 30lb. Well done Terry!

The Mackinlay Party Smashing Records!!!, 22nd Aug
Adam Mackinlay(11) here for the week with his dad James, and fellow angler Ian Banyard and his father Terry, picked up his first record breaking fish at 4:00am on Monday the 24th August in the dark.
The 30lb 2oz Common Carp brings Adam the “Juniors Lake Record Common Carp” title; then later the same day at 2:30pm, Adam’s other rod tore off to set the new “Juniors Lake Record Catfish” at 23lb 6oz! Both of Adam’s record breaking fish were taken from the ‘Gorse’ bank.
Adam takes home with him 2 personalised bottles of low alcohol La Gléhias Cider. Incredibly, Ian “Billy” Banyard battled in a pair of Mirrors weighing 26lb 10oz and 24lb 4oz totaling 50lb 14oz in the dark! The “Men’s Lake Record Brace” came in from the ‘Reeds’ at 1:00am, on Friday the 27th of August in torrential rain.
All the above fish fell to Quest Baits Special Crab, which has proved to be the winning bait here this week. Also earlier in the week, Ian’s dad took the “OAP’s Lake Record Catfish” title with a whopping 52lber!
This means the Mackinlay party are taking home 4 ‘Lake Record Awards’ in a week of difficult fishing due to high winds and heavy downpours. Well done Adam, Ian and Terry!
Fish photos will follow when developed……….

Steady on Rob!!!, 1st Aug
Robert Dannatt, here at la Gléhias for a two week holiday with wife Tracy and daughter Abby, got off to a storming start with a staggering eighteen Carp coming out in the first 48 hours of fishing.
By Thursday evening he was up to 32 fish weighing between 14 and 31lb 15oz. The catch list so far is made up of predominantly mid to upper 20’s with a smattering of Grassies, upper doubles and 30’s. The magical baits for Rob have been Maize and Quest Baits Rahja Spice fished over Carp pellet, and the catches have been coming from all over the lake; a few fish were even stalked from the deep margins with instant results!
Rob has also commented several times on how hard the fish fight and how impressed he is with the condition of the Carp. Maybe in his second week here he might slow down a little and have a more relaxing holiday with his family! (And give our fish a rest!!)
Cheers Lee
