Peg 1 - Had Numerous fish but only up to 10lb.

Peg 2 - Had a trip of a life time, landing the big mirror on the 1st bite on Sunday morning, weighing 58lb 8oz.
Followed by 2 Stockies,
33lb Mirror,
36lb Mirror,
36lb 8oz Mirror,
39lb Mirror,
2 x 44lb Mirrors,
2 x Grass carp close to 40lb,T
Topped the trip of with THE LONG COMMON @ 73lb 5oz!!

Peg 3 - Had 3 Mirror carp to 46lb.

Peg 4 - Unfortunately blanked, although for a good duration of the trip did have quite a large amount of stock in front of him but was plagued heavily by the Poisson-chat, no one else really had any issues with them.

Peg 5 - Had a new PB at 44lb and around 8 stockies.

Overall the fishing conditions wasn't the best a lot of high pressure, with most days at 26/27degrees, felt more like summer than October.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Snowman set up using Baitworks Monster Red, topped with Stickybaits Peach and Pepper was prolific and accounted for 90% of the catches across the lake, although pop-up corn worked well too over big beds of hemp and corn.

Fishing up close to the far margin works well during the night but fish seemed to move of during the day and be sat directly in the middle.

Peg 2 went through approx. 50kg of bait during the trip (25kg Boilies / 25kg Hemp/Corn) so ensure you have plenty with you to hold them if they turn up.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Yes, basic but what you need for fishing - Hot shower, running water and plenty of room in the freezer for fresh bait.

Would you recommend the venue to a friend?

Yes definitely, the lake is quite a drive but for those willing to make the effort it definitely worth it. Very peaceful and shops relatively close by.

Yes, Angling lines definitely made the whole experience stress free, was always around on the phone or email and nothing was to much for them to sort.

General Comments:

Mehdi's really nice bloke, had few chats with him during the week whilst he was tending to his stock ponds, he initially helped us with finding spots etc. We cant thank him enough for opening up a piece of his life to us, it's a fantastic little lake and perfect for social environment.

Some recommendations:
- The pegs are a little tired, in todays era we'd expect to have the pegs laid out with sand/woodbark, would helps massively for bivvy pegs and bank stick etc.
- Some of the margins are very shallow before big drops so doesn't feel to safe for either the anglers or the wellbeing of the fish, if that's the case would be better suited to a lower raised platform of some sort but not sure how that would work once the waters at it's full height, as during our trip we estimate the water was down by 4 maybe 5ft.

Many fish caught including mirror, common and grass carp caught over the week up to 60lb 7oz

Varied but snowman rig was good also caught on immitation corn pop up

General Comments:

Ive got to say Old Oaks is a great venue to visit with plenty of large carp to be caught.
Mehdi the owner is a great host in every way, giving tips on what to do, where to fish, providing bait and basically helping out in any way he can and he is available to contact at any time. I would love to visit again as we had the best week away catching great fish with my P.B. being 46lb4oz and my mate catching a 60lb7oz amongst 40+lbers, 30+lbers and so on.
Also on site is a very large chest freezer, large tall fridge, running hot and cold water (drinkable) shower, toilet facilities and 3pin electric plug sockets for charging etc

2 of the other lads had stockies whilst Lee bless him was always too busy cooking and had a blank week. Beer and Lee’s BBQ was well welcome.

General Comments:

I must also say a big Thankyou to Mehdi as we had major van issues getting to the lake, what should have been a 4 hour trip took 8 and half hours so I wasn’t best pleased. Mehdi took me to a garage at the start of the week to see if they could find the issue, unfortunately they couldn’t but I appreciated the effort from both parties. The drive home was just as bad as the adblue light kept coming on and was going into limp mode. She’s in tomorrow so hopefully find the issue!. Thanks again Mehdi!! Top man!! Merci Monseur!! 🍺🍺😎😎🎣🎣

100% Angling Lines are fantastic to deal with and nothing is to much trouble for them.

Spoke with Medhi the owner about the small fish and he is going to remove them.

*Angling Lines update 25.09.26* Thank you for your feedback we really appreciate it. We've spoken to Mehdi and he is now thinning out the smaller fish, removing them between now and winter. He confirmed that these smaller carp are the result of natural breeding in the lake.
