About the Lake

The lake offers a bit of everything in terms of the features it provides. There is a central island, a couple of bays and plenty of overhanging margin, but reassuringly very few snags and because of this it is a lake suited to anglers of varied experience.

There are three large swims:

Swim 1 sits on the dam wall, with the deepest water in front of you and good access to the bay on your right. There is a large open-fronted wooden shelter here, offering somewhere out of the sun, or rain, to sit or cook. A double swim but can accommodate up to 3 anglers on a lake exclusive booking.

Swim 3 has a gravel area built slightly out into the water. It is mainly open water fishing from this swim. You are also closest to the facilities here. A double swim.

Swim 5 gives good access to the island and has another large open-fronted shelter. A double swim but can accommodate up to 3 anglers on a lake exclusive booking.

As mentioned above, swims 1 & 5 are both generously sized doubles and can also be used as triple swims when the lake is booked exclusively (meaning the lake can accommodate groups of up to 8 anglers). With an exclusive booking, you’re also free to explore and fish from any of the other available spots around the lake’s banks.

If you are a singler angler we're afraid that, because all the swims are doubles, you would be required to pay the full price for a double swim (2 anglers).

All the swims offer fishing at long range, and whilst not absolutely necessary, a bait boat will allow you to explore every option. Rowing boats are not allowed.

With relatively shallow depths varying from 1 to 2m (similar to its sister lake Jonchery), the lake bed is mainly silt with a few harder patches scattered around. There is some weed formation in summer months but nothing that should cause a problem.

There are also some poisson chat present, a species found in many carp lakes across the country. Tiger nuts are recommended as the main bait during May/Jun/Jul/Aug and sometimes later in the season for this reason. You can find more tips for avoiding poisson chat over on the blog here. Whilst there are a few crayfish, these do not seem to cause anglers any problems.

The setting of the lake is very quiet and tranquil.

Guiding Service

A guiding service is available to help new or inexperienced anglers coming to our waters. This will be 10 hours helping you locate feeding fish or finding spots, rigs, bait and fish care for big fish and hopefully how to get the best picture to take home with you. Price for this is €50 for one or €80 for two. Parties will get a discount.

To pre-book the guiding service please contact the bailiff direct. The bailiffs email address & phone number can be found on the directions sheet which will be made available to you in your Customer Area on our website when your holiday has been paid for in full.
