What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Locate the fish and use only single bait or snowman with small stringer.

General comments: Nice House set in a fantastic valley, very quite, peaceful and relaxing. Owners are helpful but not imposing. Would like to buy it!!!

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: This venue will only produce if you are prepared to night fish. We had 6 days of blue skies and fishing was hard due to the heat, and the Coypu (water rats, the size of a small beaver)

General comments: Very peaceful location and good facilities, but disappointed not to come away with at least a double

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Tried most things, I don’t think any two rods were fished the same. Tried to keep things like Giles recommended i.e long hook lengths big hooks and heavy weights.Ok we didn’t catch much but it was really hot (over 40) and I don’t think the fish were in the mood. Apart from that we were there for the kids and family which was the reason for choosing August.We had a fantastic holiday. Everybody absolutely loved it. It really is a beautiful place. Giles did all he could, I think he was as upset as much as us that we didn’t get amongst the really big fish. It didn’t really matter though – nothing can take away the feeling of just being there in such peaceful and pretty surroundings. It really Is god’s back garden. I don’t imagine fishing any where as lovely again.

General comments: On the downside (sorry) the next time we come with Angling Lines (as it has already been decided by the children) we may just choose a place without such a long drive. We made it extra hard on ourselves because we were travelling with a four month old baby. We would have liked the house to be better equipped. There wasn’t enough cups, plates, cutlery etc. We took extra from Lotus as we had both cottages and we didn’t complain to Giles…perhaps he would have brought more, but it seemed petty. We did ask him for a fan because of the heat and it was a god send for the baby’s room. There seemed to be a big difference in the standards of cottages between the lake house and the Lotus, which I didn’t expect – I felt Lotus was a little too rustic bordering on basic. I didn’t find out that my brother had shared a bed with his daughter because the top section of the Lotus cottage was locked. We could have sorted that I’m sure, but I had requested for 1 adult and 3 children. When we were there, the dishwasher in the Lake house, Giles did fix it in the end, though I don’t know how long it will last. We tended to wash up as we went along so as not to run out of stuff. Sorry if this letter sounds negative – I assure you it isn’t…. The positives well outweigh the negatives. Visiting Mas Bas was a wonderful experience, I do hope we return again one day. Finally as recommended by Bridget, we stopped off at Le Moulin to break up the journey. Nick and Christina who were amazing hosts, looked after us wonderfully. I’d recommend them. What did you find were the best tactics/baits: the biggest fish came from around the island, the willows to the right of the house and by the little tree on the right bank looking out from the house.all caught on Quest Rhaja Spice

Brief details of your catches: Only fished couple of hours morning & evening. Best fish 45lb 2oz mirror, also 44lb 14oz, three 20's, four 10lb-20lb. Plus lots of 'bits' on the pole.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Only had limited tackle, best tactic was spotting feeding fish and fretting double 20mm boilies (Quest Rahja Spice)on a light hair rig.

General comments: Lesley and Giles were brilliant & were there if we needed anything (sorted out a couple of medical issues for Mary, my wife) but also gave us space to chill out. Mas Bas is a special place, I hope that if I make it to heaven, heaven is like Mas Bas!! Thank you Angling Lines, Lesley & Giles for a holiday of a lifetime, what more can I say.

Brief details of your catches: the fishing was good, it was our first fishing holiday. We caught mainly grass crap, but also some mirror and common carp. We caught some small bream (skimmers). the fish caught weighted from 2lb up to 25Lb. the average weight was 10-15LB. the biggest was a common carp and the next biggest was a grss carp. We fish all the time in front of the house next year we might venture to the other bank.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: the best baits were Quest raja spice and the trout pellett for all types of fishing. Giles was a great help for all aspects of fishing espically the baits and best spots for fish.

Were the facilities what you expected? better than expected, ideal for a family. Everything you need was on site. lesley was very hlpful about places to go, shops, resturants etc.

General comments: We are a family of four to keep the children company our daughter brought her boyfriend and our son brought his cousin.They ranged in age from 15 to 20. My husband, son and nephew were the fishermen, but we all had the best holiday ever.The facilities are excellent for families ( care would need to be taken with toddlers). the weather was fab, the local village was approx 5 miles away and you could get everything you wanted there. There was also farmers markets in different villages daily where you could buy fresh local produce cheaply.You need a car to get around as it is quite remote, but we found this not to be a problem at all. the city of Agen was about 30mins drive and had a music festival that week. Lesley and Giles were lovely hosts, they were there if we needed anything and Giles was great with the kids he even stayed up one night with them night fishing. We would reccomend this venue to any family for a holiday even if they are not hardened fishermen or women.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: best tactics where snowman presentations..15mm bottom and a 15mm pop-up.both Questbaits Smokey fish and Rahja spice worked well.stalking them in the shallows during daytime work very well..( the 39 lb and hte big common both from that end.)

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Everything i tried work from single hook baits to snowmen single pop ups and bottom baits.

General comments: Lesley and Gilles were great made us feel at home at their lovely venue. Fishing made harder with the noise around the house and at the pool. Caught mainly at night and early morning but also roasting hot during the day which didnt help matters. Super Holiday.

General comments: Water temperatures were very high which slowed fishing but the fish caught were all in good condition.I'm not convinced this is a hard venue,more that the fish stocks are somewhat below what is claimed.Very few fish to be seen,even in good spotting conditions. The presence of koi to Lotus Lake is a pity.They belong in a garden pond rather than a fshing venue in my opinion. Facilities pretty good.Very peaceful venue and a stunning location.Great for a family holiday,which is what I was doing,but not a venue that would tempt me for 7 days solid fishing.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Snowman fishmeal/fruit over pellet/partiblend presentation towards far bank/island accounted for most takes, big fish came close to house at night in deeper water..Only fished 2 whole nights/some mornings and evenings as a 'family' holiday!!

General comments: Mas Bas is definitely worth the long drive down to the south of France, when you get there you are at the bottom of a valley with no one around then you get greeted by Lesley & Gilles who are the best hosts I have come across. The House is well equipped with everything you will need and the fishing is great sport. Gilles has a good section of carp gear to rent out and a freezer full of all the Quest Bait range to buy as you need it.

Brief details of your catches: 3 carp (15lb - 20lb), 1 Pike, 1 Eel and numerous Bream

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: All the carp fell to stalking float-fishing tactics using natural baits (worm/maggot). Dad had a number of runs freelining baits in with the stream where it joins the lake in the shallows. Otherwise bait presentation was very difficult in the thick weed.

Were the facilities what you expected? Yes - even better with the new tiled patio area

General comments: We primarily come away with Angling Lines for a relaxing family holiday together with the chance of a big fish that we couldn't catch in the uk. This delivered big time on the first part with the weather well above 20'C every day and the girls getting a chance to top up their tans around the pool. Unfortunately this meant that the fish were already spawning (in April!) and thats before you mention the weed! Lesley & Gilles are all too aware of the weed problem and are taking steps to deal with it but it really harmed our fishing this week and I can only imagine what it might be like in June/July/August if it is like this now...Numerous hook pulls (we used barbless which stood no chance in the weed but call ahead, I believe Gilles will allow microbarbed) and knotted rigs retrieved meant that the margins presented the only serious opportunity to catch. We knew Mas Bas could be tricky, but we caught 3 x 40's last time and I see that the guy the week after us caught a 49lb'er so the rewards are there to be had, I'll just be calling the week before next time and getting Gilles on his tractor to clear me a swim out!!!We'll definitely be back, the place is perfect if you can just GET RID OF THE WEED - PLEASE. P.S. Don't lie out on the landing stage all day - sunstroke is not very nice!
