Details of your catches:

Only one angler fishing, with a total of 50 fish caught.
Fished 3/4 hours in morning and 3/4 hours in the evening due to high temps most days (37C - 39C).
16 x Mirror Carp, smallest 28lb 2oz, largest 38lb (14 fish over 30lb)
8 x Common Carp, smallest 18lb 10oz, largest 29lb 12oz
26 x Grass Carp, smallest 18lb 4oz, largest 34lb

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Due to high temps, the best time to fish was the first two hours each morning (majority of bites) - as others have said, when the lake is fishing you can only use one rod (several occasions, line was either taken from your hand or within minutes of the rod being set on the rests).
Fed one spot on the far margin with boilies only (15kg) to try and limit the grass carp and used two bags of Gilles' Nash boilies (24mm) as hookbaits and loose feed for across two rods (second rod used as a roving rod for open water spots, off the aerator or to showing fish.
Used long stiff German rigs, with quad cell topper - strong, sharp hooks required and air dried hookbaits.
Never left any rod in the water for longer than 1 hour, as rigs were often bought back with the hookbait removed.
Minimal interference from the poisson chat.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Yes the facilities are exactly as advertised.
The property has a rustic French charm and the setting is absolutely stunning.
The kitchen was very well equipped and the swimming pool was most welcome due to the high temps.
Any issues Gilles was happy to help and was always asking if everything was okay.

Were you happy with them?

Yes - as stated above, the location and layout is perfect for family holiday, carp fishing.

Would you recommend the venue to a friend?

Would absolutely recommend to friends - without hesitation.

Would you recommend the services to a friend?

Yes, the booking process and customer portal for the booking, was very good.
The choice of venues on Angling Lines is excellent and based on this booking, exactly as advertised.

General Comments:

Gilles was an excellent host, from the moment we arrived he was keen to ensure that we had everything we needed and was contactable via phone, for the few occasions we needed him - would check in every other day, in any case.
The view first thing in the morning was truly spectacular and the layout of the property and swimming pool/BBQ area right next to the lake means you can fish and still socialise with the family (except when rushing to rods for another take!).
I know the grass carp numbers can seem annoying, but due to these "crazy" fish, there is little or no weed/thick silt in margins, so baits are always presented and their greed creates a competition for the King Carp, making these "easier" to catch.
We've been coming to France for a number of years and stayed at a few "family" carp venues, but the set-up at MasBas is the best we've had and the fast action fishing means you don't need to spend hours on the bank, invaluable when balancing angling and family time.

Details of your catches:

The fishing conditions weren’t ideal with temperatures hovering around 40 degrees for three days and a warm day between 37 and 38 degrees.
Despite the heat, my father-in-law and I caught about 40 fish between us. Friends also caught a few from the main lake.
The majority of the carp we caught were grass carp, with about seven king carp. This seemed to be a recurring theme from previous catch reports. Most fish weighed around 30lb, but the biggest carp we caught was a leather carp weighing just under 40lb.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Fake corn and wafters fished to the far margin with a bait boat loaded with free offerings.
Originally we started off with tiger nut and pellets in the mix but phased them out as they seemed to attract the grass carp more.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Overall, yes, the farmhouse provided everything the group needed for a week and the pool facilities were excellent. The only downside was the unbearable heat inside during the day and night which made sleeping difficult. Some of the group opted to sleep outside under the patio.

Were you happy with them?

Yes, some facilities could use replacing due to wear and tear. The sun lounges have split slats and the carp cradles and weigh slings are in desperate need of replacing likely because of the battering they take from the grass carp.
*Angling Lines note* Thank you for bringing this to our attention, we have informed the owner.
UPDATE 07.07.26 - The sun loungers and carp cradles have now been replaced.

General Comments:

My family rented the main lake at Mas Bas while friends rented Lotus Lake. We fished the main lake throughout the day and occasionally had friends join us. Gilles was very helpful and the location is set in a tranquil and peaceful location. Fishing could have been better but was likely due to extreme temps limiting feeding. I would think about thinning out the grass carp ratio to king carp, after catching the first few grass carp they just become annoying.

Details of your catches:

TOTAL CATCHES
Grass Carp: 38 (Largest: 37.5 lb)
Mirror Carp: 10 (Largest: 43 lb 16 oz - Ross' PB)
Common Carp: 4 (Total weight: 218 lb)
Catfish: 1 (~1 lb)

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Tactics & Feeding
Used bait boat, although 50/50 split between catches from casting vs bait boats.
Got through 2 bags of boilies (Gilles' Supply) + 1 bag of Pellet.
Single boilie on Ronnie rig best for us.
Feeding more heavily increases grass carp numbers - this was intentional for us with the higher temps (34-36°C most days).
Fished ~06:30-21:30 most days. Slower going in middle of day, but catching still possible.
Worth checking rigs regularly as catfish / crayfish can whittle down unprotected boilies quickly.
We only fished from grass area near the house. Can catch from anywhere on lake but right margin, far margin and open water towards aerator were best for us.

General Comments:

We had a fantastic week at Mas bas and would happily return. The lake is clearly well stocked with a great mix of grass carp, mirrors and commons, and we enjoyed some exceptional fishing throughout the trip, landing 52 carp including a number of fish over 30 lb and a stunning 43 lb mirror.

The venue is peaceful, scenic and well maintained, with plenty of wildlife around the lake. The swims were comfortable and the fish were in excellent condition. We found the owner helpful and welcoming throughout our stay.

Like any fishing venue, success depends on conditions and effort, but we found the fishing exciting and rewarding, with action throughout the week and fish showing in different areas of the lake.

Overall, a brilliant fishing holiday with great facilities, beautiful surroundings and some unforgettable catches. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a productive and enjoyable carp fishing trip in France.
