Prolific fishing! Only fished mornings, before the younger members dragged themselves out of bed! Then had a single rod out during the day, whilst enjoying the pool, playing games, and alfresco dining. Never fished after 5pm, and still managed about 40 hard fighting fish. Biggest common a few ounces under 40lb, mirrors to 37.5 lb, and 9 grass carp over the 30lb mark to 35lb. Could’ve at least doubled that tally fishing harder.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Simple rigs, boated across to far margin, with a generous handful of Gilles boilies. Used the krill, and citrus and both produced equally well. Had several takes before the bait boat was halfway back!! Multiple double takes, hence dropping down to one rod to limit the carnage!

Were the facilities what you expected?

Gite is a lovely, rustic place with a genuine French feel. Very well equipped and comfortable. The view from the Gite is stunning. Gilles is a lovely guy, happy to help if needed. Pops in to ensure no issues, but leaves you in peace to enjoy his beautiful place.

Great venue! First class if you want to combine a family holiday and catch plenty of quality fish. I’ll be back, but will fly next time…..cos it’s a helluva drive

Details of your catches:

Brilliant fishing once again, two fishing but only one set of rods and taking turns, days only. 60 fish landed for a total weight of 1852lbs, average of 30lbs, best carp 41.12lb and grassy 37.11lb. Used Gilles bait and advice, far margin and midway off the aerator.

Simple bottom baits, lots of feed, best time early morning

Yes but we have been here before, all very good, make sure you look after the little black and white cat that seems to have made a home here

Details of your catches:

My son and I spent the week fishing during the day, however as there were 10 of us we ensured everyone caught. Most of the time we only had 2 rods out with 2 ready to go for a quick turn around.

Mirror Carp - 36 in total. Largest 41.5lbs
Common Carp - 16 in total. Largest 39lbs
Grass Carp - 52 in total. Largest 38.5lbs
Koi Carp - 5 in total. Largest 27lbs

(1 x Zander, 7 x Bream, and a handful of poisson chat)

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

For quick catches a decent amount of boilies and pellet near any margin and you’re in with a great shout of getting a Grass Carp. They come in quick and then fight for their life near the bank. Take extra net mesh as we had two rip from the larger grass carp.

We used Parker Bait OG with spicy sauce. Then mixed it up and still caught, so I don't think they are too precious.

Mirror and Common we used smaller boat loads, and we found better results with boilies over popups or wafters. They loved Goo. TigerNut, No Name and Salami.

Two rods worked well for us as, but with a decent spread over the lake I’d suggest no more than 5 max.

60cm tubing to a fox running safety clip, 3oz with to a Standard 5-6inch rig. Used screws and hair rig for bait. Micro Barb size 4 and 6.

Tree line at the back of the lake from the house. Between dead tree to the left and as far round to the willow in the water on the right. It is very shallow near the willow. Had several takes from the middle of the lake using solid bags.

Clean and tidy. Everything was working as it should.

Absolutely. Works well for a family, we went as two families of 5 and had plenty of room.

General Comments:

A great family holiday location. Having a lake and pool makes this a great spot for the summer. Plenty to do locally as a family both during the day and of an evening.

Details of your catches:

Only one angler fishing, with a total of 50 fish caught.
Fished 3/4 hours in morning and 3/4 hours in the evening due to high temps most days (37C - 39C).
16 x Mirror Carp, smallest 28lb 2oz, largest 38lb (14 fish over 30lb)
8 x Common Carp, smallest 18lb 10oz, largest 29lb 12oz
26 x Grass Carp, smallest 18lb 4oz, largest 34lb

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Due to high temps, the best time to fish was the first two hours each morning (majority of bites) - as others have said, when the lake is fishing you can only use one rod (several occasions, line was either taken from your hand or within minutes of the rod being set on the rests).
Fed one spot on the far margin with boilies only (15kg) to try and limit the grass carp and used two bags of Gilles' Nash boilies (24mm) as hookbaits and loose feed for across two rods (second rod used as a roving rod for open water spots, off the aerator or to showing fish.
Used long stiff German rigs, with quad cell topper - strong, sharp hooks required and air dried hookbaits.
Never left any rod in the water for longer than 1 hour, as rigs were often bought back with the hookbait removed.
Minimal interference from the poisson chat.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Yes the facilities are exactly as advertised.
The property has a rustic French charm and the setting is absolutely stunning.
The kitchen was very well equipped and the swimming pool was most welcome due to the high temps.
Any issues Gilles was happy to help and was always asking if everything was okay.

Yes - as stated above, the location and layout is perfect for family holiday, carp fishing.

Yes, the booking process and customer portal for the booking, was very good.
The choice of venues on Angling Lines is excellent and based on this booking, exactly as advertised.

General Comments:

Gilles was an excellent host, from the moment we arrived he was keen to ensure that we had everything we needed and was contactable via phone, for the few occasions we needed him - would check in every other day, in any case.
The view first thing in the morning was truly spectacular and the layout of the property and swimming pool/BBQ area right next to the lake means you can fish and still socialise with the family (except when rushing to rods for another take!).
I know the grass carp numbers can seem annoying, but due to these "crazy" fish, there is little or no weed/thick silt in margins, so baits are always presented and their greed creates a competition for the King Carp, making these "easier" to catch.
We've been coming to France for a number of years and stayed at a few "family" carp venues, but the set-up at MasBas is the best we've had and the fast action fishing means you don't need to spend hours on the bank, invaluable when balancing angling and family time.
