About the Lake
The Main Lake's largest carp, depending on the season, varies from 49 to 55lb. With a total of around 210 carp in the Main Lake there are plenty of carp to aim at and catch rates are good.
Depths vary from 2m to as little as ½m in the shallows where carp can be regularly seen cruising and foraging for food amongst the lily pads. Stalking carp in these areas is very popular with regular visitors. The lake offers plenty of margins and features. Large willows dip into the lake to the right of Lake house, a favourite hot spot, but there are many more along both margins and a small island to one side is also attractive to the carp.
Because the accommodation is so close to the lake the house swims get fished most regularly (you can fish from the veranda!). However, there are swims elsewhere around the lake for bivvies too. Fish well and you’ll get the rewards.
A maximum of 4 anglers in total can fish the Main Lake at any one time.
There can be crayfish present at Mas Bas (as with many lakes in France) and so if you are fishing in the hot summer months when they are most active it is best to go prepared - you can find lots of information here for combatting crayfish in France. We recommend using tiger nuts if the crayfish are active during your week.
There may be a few poisson chat but they don't seem to cause any issues for anglers at all. There is nothing that causes concern regarding snags and there have been no reported issues with weed.
Important note; A French fishing licence is required at this venue. This will be arranged for you by the owner and is included in the price.
