News from Mas Bas Main Lake
Jul 2017
Going Prepared, 7th Jul
Just a reminder that there are crayfish present at Mas Bas (as with many lakes in France) and so if you are fishing in the hot summer months when they are most active it is best to go prepared - you can find lots of information here for combatting crayfish in France.
Owner Gilles always carries a stock of shrink-wrap and is happy to give you pointers if you ask. Once these simple tactics are employed, it has not affected the fishing.

'The Perfect Getaway Holiday - With Big Fish!', 9th Jul
Anglers Mail editor Tim Knight recently spent a week at Mas Bas this June, here’s his article following the trip…
EVER tried finding and then enjoying a holiday where you get enough good fishing in, and the non-angler/s with you are equally well catered for? It isn’t always easy to get the balance right!
I can put my holidays into three categories:
- Fun times where hoped-for fishing did not happen… for whatever reason.
- Full-on fab fishing and beers with mates in Ireland, Denmark, Holland etc.
- Forgettable breaks, alright at the time but firmly at the back of the memory.
This spring I trawled the internet to find a perfect blend for a week away in late June, far from the crazy concrete city I work in and the lively seaside town I live in.
Sun plus a pool or nearby coast would be vital for the missus. Fishing – quality fish and nobody else around, for me. A few local places of interest and places to eat would be handy so we felt we’d been abroad!

It's Spring at Mas Bas, 29th Mar
Being in the South of France definitely has it's advantages, the sun has been shining and the fish have been jumping.
Our friends Laurie and Julien made the most of the good weather and were looking forward to finally getting their rods into the water after a hard and wet winter.
In the three hours that they spent at Mas Bas main lake, they were not disapointed and caught five beautiful carp, one of which, pictured below, weighed in at 29lbs.
