40+ fish caught during the week (discounting a handful of 6-8lb bream) which was not bad as some of the party are novices in this game!

4 x 40lb+ mirror carp largest being 46lb and 47lb (2 others of 41lb)
10 other mirror carp of 30lb+

1 x common 17lb 1 x grass carp 27lb, 1 x golden common 18lb
13 catfish (3 of which took our 70lb scales beyond their limit! The lake record would have certainly been threatened we felt with two of them - Bernard treated us to a bottle in 'unofficial' celebration). Others of 65lb, 51lb.

As a group we lost around 10 fish also.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Fish were caught on single boilie with scattered boilie to feed whilst one person fished maize to good effect.

Were the facilities what you expected?

There were problems with the faciltiies but as ever Bernard did his best to accommodate us. The shower facilities were a problem due to the water quality, but we were encouraged to pop to the nearby village and use his recently acquired property to shower when required. When the water supply completely put paid to the loo, Bernard was out with a workman to discover that the pump was no longer working - it was replaced that afternoon. The motor and battery to the boat also did not work but were replaced the very next day - he did his best to resolve and the issues!

Were you happy with them?

Not really but given the problems Bernard was having, we were happy with the resolutions. We have fished this water three times now and he and his daughter Sophie always do what they can to make the stay a welcome one.

General Comments:

Water level was higher this year which made the fishing better we felt. Once the catfish moved into our swim, the carp appeared to move out and the catch rate was falling as the week progressed (the weather was cooler towards the end of the week too).

I enjoyed the opportunity to practise my somewhat rusty schoolboy French (from 35 years ago) with Bernard - he's a top chap and even invited us round to watch the Euro football finals at his home, which sadly France lost!

Roughly caught around 50 fish between 4 anglers. There was a range including catfish, mirror carp, grass carp, bream and Common.

Bream ranged 7 - 10lb
Common - 40lb
Grass - up to 44lb
Mirror - up to 48lb
Catfish - up to 69lb

Were the facilities what you expected?

It was unfortunate that due to the amount of rain over June that the lake was extremely high, this lead to limited places for our group. The water in the cabin for using in food prep/washing was contaminated and had the most awful smell, this was quite bad, therefore Mr Bernard had to get us some fresh water which he provided in large bottles, he also allowed us to shower at his home without any hesitation. Mrs Bernard also washed some clothing for us too. I have to say although the lake and facilities were unusually not at there best (we have been before and never any problems). Mr & Mrs Bernard were simply fantastic and couldn't have done much more for us. He seemed to find the problem Friday and was trying to get it sorted.

As a group we had 56 fish, most fish came from tree line smaller lake area quite facility lake only 8 fish all week to 2 of our party fishing from far chalk bank, biggest fish 47lb Mirror, few cats over 60lb and lots Grass carp biggest 38lb.
