La Fonte

About the Lake

The lake has a stream inlet and outlet, and is abundant with wildlife. You will find the deeper water towards the dam wall at one end, the top of the lake (where swim 3 is located) is shallower.

The lake's slim shape means it is possible to cast or use bait boats to fish the far margins, whilst your group stays socially fishing from the same bank. The lake bottom is mainly silt with some hard spots which are not too hard to find, and has  minimal weed or snags.

During field testing it was found that the more productive area was the far margin. However be advised that if you do fish to this area, please do not fish too tight to the margins as it will result in lost fish and potentially put the carp's safety at risk. There is a small out of bounds area towards the far margin to the right of swim 3 for this very reason, marked by rope.

Fishing a couple of yards from here produced lots of bites and it is also advised that you walk around to the other bank prior to casting out to familiarise yourself with the area and ensure that it is safe for the fish. Tight lines and drop off lead systems are imperative to ensure that a bite results in a fish on the bank.

Anglers will be pleased to know that there are no known issues with poisson chat. As with many French lakes, crayfish are present, more so in the hotter months when they become more active. It is always best to go prepared - you can find lots of information here for combatting crayfish in France. Shrink wrapping your bait is a tried and tested method to use.

Vehicle access goes only as far as the facilities, there is a well maintained pathway around the lake giving access to the three double swims and a large wheelbarrow on site.

There are three double swims evenly spread along one bank of this French carp lake, each have a good wooden platform for playing and landing the carp (you'll need to remember to bring pod or stage stands for these). Weighing stands are by each swim, so no struggling there either.

Swim Dimensions:
- Swim 1: 3m x 5m
- Swim 2: 3.7m x 5.2m
- Swim 3: 3.2m x 5m

Additionally, there is the boat pontoon, which can be used as an additional swim for a single angler if you wish.
