Details of your catches:

37 fish caught in total. 2 x 40's, 8 x 30's numerous fish between 27-29lb. All fish over 20lb with the excedption of an 18lb common on the first day.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

All fishmeal based boilies loosely scattered, numerous sizes fed little and often (following advice from a very helpful bailiff). Fishmeal based wafters fish over the top with regular repositioning of baits. Positioning seemed critical, a couple of feet seemed to make all the difference.

Were the facilities what you expected?

The facilities were great! Powerful shower, more than adequate fridge space and more importantly freezer space with a larger additional chest freezer for overspill of fresh bait. Cabin was clean and functional, microwave, cooker etc etc. The addition of numerous English power points in the kitchen and bedroom, plugs and extension leads made life so much easier!

General Comments:

Overall a great holiday was had by all of us, very relaxed in very well maintained surroundings. The lake was fishing a little moody and the fishing was hard at times. The lake seemed to be split into two halves, the shallow end producing 95% of the fish and the more positive runs, the deeper end holding fish but with very few bites...a complete reversal of the week before (that's fishing)! At times it left you scratching your head and very tempted to continually chop and change hookbaits, rigs and tactics but patience and perseverance payed off in the end.

The bailiff had explained that weather conditions in and after spawning a few months back had meant the fish were taking far longer to recover and weren't yet up to their normal weights. Richard the bailiff was extremely friendly and knowledgable, a very good judge of character and was always there if needed. The rules are few and far between, common sense and fish safety are THE top priority! The main road running behind the venue was pretty noisy at times but you get used to it and personally it didn't worry me at all.

My advice would be watch for fish moving/feeding, DON'T ignore the margins or immediately fish tight to the island, look for tucked away spots, some fish were taking in under 2ft of water. The lilly pads are a continual fish holding feature and for us produced the most runs.

Slow to start, picked up after Monday and ended up a great week with 29 fish to 45lb 10oz.

General Comments:

Trimming back trees in front of cabin would improve the view of the lake, but beautiful natural venue nevertheless. Richard was as helpful and welcoming as always and the lake remains a potentially productive venue for those who get it right. When you get it right the action can be fast and furious. Look forward to next year!
