News from Old Oaks lake
Dec 2014
New Catfish!, 16th Dec
We just introduced a new catfish at Old Oaks.
It 's a very dark specimen weighing 55lb and measuring over 5 feet long.
Also, after spending days and days in the cold water, we finally removed all the snags off the water! It was a tough work with chainsaw, tractor, rain, freezing wind, wading in the water but everything is clean now. It will probably change the fishing, spreading the fish in open water, we'll see next year. Check the photos.

Last week, Jason Snelling's party, fishing only 5 days, had a superb results too with 15 fish landed including 8 over 40lb and 3 fifties up to 56lb common! That 56lber common is the second best common in the lake and has topped his new maximum ever weight (was 49lb before). That makes 623.8lb's weight in total for 14 carp : which is a 44.5lb AVERAGE!!! Congratulations!
During the whole season, a huge amount of 40lb/50lber's was caught regularly and the cherry on the cake is still that 62lb Long common, measuring 4 feet long.

5 Years On..., 19th Aug
A new article from Simon Boi after his groups return to Old Oaks 5 years since their first trip...
'It was good to be back on Old Oaks. Like us the fish were five years older, a bit wiser and a lot fatter.
When we arrived at the lake after the drive through the lovely French countryside, it was good to see Mehdi again and even better to be back on Old Oaks. Once you close the gates behind you, with a week’s fishing ahead, it feels like all your Christmasses have come at once.
We had been told that the fishing had been very slow recently, unfortunately the previous party had been unsuccessful which meant we knew our work was going to be cut out. After taking a trip around the lake, we didn’t see many signs of fish but it was drizzling a little which gave us hope, so it we picked swims based on everyones gut feelings, knowing there would always be one swim available as we were only a party of four...'
