Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Using house mad Baits - P Fish 18mm boilies on a simple hair rig near the far bank opposite the pegs. We used 2 boilies on each rig. Also used the boat to build the swim with 1kg boilie drops after evening meal each day and fished the same spot.

Were the facilities what you expected?

The house, food and shower facilities were really good. Food package supplied and cooked by Martin included breakfast and evening meal and was excellent. Also loaned bikes to go to shops 20 mins away and swimming lake which was 7 minutes away.

Had a great weeks fishing, Martin leaves you to it but will give you sound advice if you need any help.

Details of your catches:

22 carp caught between 2 anglers (one of whom was my son) using 3 rods. Weighing between 19-44lbs the majority being linear carp.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Listening to the owner (Martin) provided the best means of catching regarding swims and locations to fish to. We also found the bait he provided the most effective, using solid bags fished over a bed of his Boilies. Due to the temperatures averaging 36 degrees for the entire week, night fishing was the only viable option for us but proved fruitful compared to minimal daytime activity.

Were the facilities what you expected?

The facilities were more than adequate for us to self cater. We chose to decline the optional food package as my partner was willing to cook for us and it gave us the opportunity to sample the local cuisine which was great.

Were you happy with them?

Overall we were happy with the facilities. Given the exceptional heat we experienced for the week the addition of air conditioning would have been good and the ban on fires during our visit meant the BBQ facilities were not available but these circumstances were beyond the control of our host who did his utmost to ensure we had a great time including airport transfers for 2 of our party and tackle/ bait provision.

Would you recommend the venue to a friend?

We would definitely recommend this venue to those looking for a small, intimate lake stocked with a good head of carp to 55lb. The lake is situated in a beautiful location surrounded by a variety of trees. Also close to a lake where you can swim, picnic and buy snacks. There are also lovely villages and towns to visit within a 20 minute drive.

We would definitely recommend the service provided by Angling Lines to other fishermen seeking a similar experience.

General Comments:

Overall our first carp fishing trip to France was a resounding success due largely to our choice of venue and the knowledge and assistance provided by our host. We were unlucky to have to travel by car from Caen for 7 hours with faulty air conditioning in 39 degrees of heat which persisted all week and impacted the fishing. But we still broke our PBs and caught several 30lb plus fish every night. In fact our record for the week compared very favourably with catch reports from other venues during the same week.
If we were to repeat the trip I would recommend flying from Stansted to Limoges and getting the airport transfer offered as well as hiring the good quality gear and bait on offer too. A final big thanks to our host Martin Weller who made our trip successful and memorable!

Details of your catches:

Over 50 fish between us, including 9x 40’s and the biggest catch of the week a mirror at just over 50lb.
2 grass carp, the largest a stunning fish at 44lb.
1 catfish at 74lb

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

keep it simple, fishing to the far banks and dam wall. Early mornings and late evenings brought out the most fish. We used the bait supplied by Martin as its a quality bait that pretty much guarantees a bite.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Absolutely. This is our 3rd visit to Bears lake which says it all. Whilst we brought all of own gear this time, Martin offers full equipment hire if you wanted that option. The lake is very peaceful, isolated and exceptionally well maintained. The accommodation is spot on, with a brand new hot and powerful shower, and a large TV with all of the English channels if you want a break from the fishing.

Definitely, this is a brilliant venue in a beautiful part of rural France. Our 3rd time visiting (and will be coming again next year). The owner, Martin wants you to have a great holiday and can’t do enough for you. if you are struggling to find the fish, Martin will gladly help. In my opinion the food package option is an absolute must, the meals that Martin prepares are all home cooked, top quality... and huge! A perfect venue to relax, catch some beautiful fish and have a laugh.
