About the Lake
Set just off a small lane, the setting is rural and quiet, surrounded by fields. The lake is roughly rectangular in shape with all 4 swims on one bank along with the facilities.
Each swim is gravelled and stepped for ease of landing carp, with plenty of room for bivvies behind and easy access by car for unloading. Swims 1 and 2 also allow the possibility of parking your vehicle (including larger vehicles such as campervans) directly behind your swim if you wish.
Depths are good, ranging from 1 to 4 metres, with an average of 2 metres. The lake bottom is made up of mainly gravel & silt. It has minimal weed or snags and no issues with poisson chat or crayfish. Water quality is excellent and the lake contains many naturals, like bloodworm, which is why the carp grow so fast!
Carp cradles, weigh slings and landing nets are supplied free of charge - you must not use your own for the biosecurity of the lake.
Bait boats are allowed but rowing boats are not. There are two bait boats available to hire (90 euros each for the week), if you wish to hire these you can contact the owner directly. Their contact details are provided in your info pack once booked.
A few tips on swim hot spots
Owner Thomas will be able to advise you on arrival, however below are some pointers:
Swim 1 (single): This swim has full access to the right hand margin and far side. Hotspots are fishing the right margin, but don't neglect the water close in. You can park your vehicle behind this swim if you wish.
Swim 2 (single): Fishing out to open water and the far margin. This swim sits closest to the facilities and you can park your vehicle behind if you wish. In terms of hot spots we advise using a marker rod to find the lake bottom change about 6 rod lengths out.
Swim 3 (single): We advise fishing opposite the oak tree full of ivy, close to the margin is a very good spot. Another productive area is just before the edge of a gentle sandy slope, running from 1m from the margin to about 10m out, roughly in the shape of a tongue. There's also a bowl on the right hand side of the swim, about 2m out, which is a very good spot and don't forget to try a rod on your margin too.
Swim 4 (double): Has access to the whole left hand bay, including a large drop off on the left edge of the small bay. Another good spot is in front of the two trees on your margin.
