News from Laroussi lake

Jan 2025

Road to 2025, 21st Jan

First of all, we wish you a happy new year and plenty of big fish for 2025!

Weather and lake
This winter has been extremely wet. In fact, since the opening of Laroussi in 2003, we have never experienced so much rainfall. While Laroussi is full, we are successfully maintaining the right water level with a special drainage outlet. This means that all swims remain perfectly fishable, so there’s no need to worry.

The temperatures have been quite cold this winter, with several weeks experiencing temperatures below 0°C. The coldest day so far was in mid-January, when it dropped to -6°C. The water temperature is currently at 3°C. Surprisingly, the fish are still active and feeding. In the last three weeks, some really nice fish have been caught, displaying beautiful winter colors.

As usual, we did some trimming on each swim and removed two large trees on the L’Anse swim. We created a brand new gravel path from Le Chêne to the La Plage peg. A total of 32 tons of gravel were used, so there is no longer any mud to drive through on the way to the La Plage and L’Anse pegs. (See pictures.) Please make sure to stay on the gravel path to avoid any issues.

Cabin refreshment
In the following weeks, we will refresh the shower part, the heater, and repaint the hut.

Winter fishing
Despite the cold and wet conditions, the last 8 anglers who fished the lake between 48 and 72 hours, in December to mid January, all caught fish! Jordan was the luckiest one, catching two big fish: 62lb 8oz mirror, and the pretty common at 54lb.

We can’t wait to see you on Laroussi bank, catching beautiful fish and smashing PB’s!

Giant Pumpkins!, 17th Jan

As promised to many of you, here the results of the giant pumpkins we grew organically at Laroussi in 2024. We ended with 3 pumpkins weighing 1661lb, 1822lb (2025 French champion), and 1974lb!

2024 Season, 17th Jan

French 2024 weather has been very similar to UK, very wet and not much sun, which wasn’t ideal for fishing. Despite those conditions, Laroussi did fish well, with many good weeks, up to 50 fish for the best week of the season. 20lber, 30lber, 40lber, 50lber and some 60lber common and mirror, a superb grass carp weight average of nearly 60lb and some big tench up to 11.6oz were all landed by many happy anglers.

Very few catfish were caught (17) which is a great news, probably the end!

As many regular anglers noticed this year, no weed at all, dye colour is working perfectly. This new 100% organic product doesn’t affect the fishing AT ALL, which is a very good point.

The last fish introduced have put on a lot of weight, and should reach 40lb+ in the spring, which is fast considering they were only 6lb two years ago. Many beautiful zip linears, fully scaled and heavy plated were caught (check the photos).

Thank you and see you in 2025!

2024 January News, 2nd Jan

First of all, happy new year to everyone. Best wishes and plenty of big fish!

Laroussi 2023 season has been very good. The new fish introduction from our stockpond and the catfish removal has paid off.

The fish growth is proving the lake balance is back (only 23 catfish were caught and removed). Many 2023 anglers reported us they really appreciated the new scaley stockies.

One of them put on many pounds in just a few months. Fortunately, we’ve got all stages pictures to share of that particular fish.

Photo 1 - 6lb 8oz in 2022 January in the stock pond
Photo 2 - 23lb in 2022 December. In only 11 months. Introduced at Laroussi at the same time.
Photo 3 - 35lb 4oz at the end of October 2023, caught in Laroussi.

That’s some growth!

Photo 4 - today (02/01/2024), the very first Laroussi carp has been landed this morning at 37lb.

This winter, the fishing conditions are good; the average temperature is around 10°C. The water temperature is 10°C too, so the fish are still active. The actual winter breaks are very interesting so you can come and enjoy winter fishing right now.

Getting excited about this new 2024 season!
