Our videographer, Jamie, enjoyed a week at Mas Bas Lotus Lake this summer. Take a look at the new venue video HERE.

Improvements ready for 2023 season, 22nd Mar
We noticed last year that more grass carp were being caught than usual. We have worked this winter to readdress the balance of grass carp in the lake, removing those we catch and putting them in a stock pond. The poisson chats are also being actively managed.
Finally we have added a few new carp to the lake of decent size.
This should all mean improved fishing for future guests!

Tackling the poisson chat!, 25th Feb
We visited the Mas Bas lakes last week to see how Gilles was getting on with tackling the poisson chat (they caused some issues for anglers last year on Lotus lake and even more so for those using groundbait) And I'm pleased to say tackling them he is .... on all fronts!
The water level in Lotus lake has been temporarily lowered over the closed season and so far he has removed nearly a ton of the dastardly things. He has not only consistently netted against the outlets and holes (by hand net and landing nets) but even removed some by digger through removal of some of the silt they bury into. Suffice to say that he is confident that these small cats will not be such an issue next year.
Other work clearing fallen trees and reinforcing the banks is also taking place currently. Another update when work completed.

Dealing with Poisson chat, 29th Sep
Over the summer months the lake has seen large numbers of poisson chat in the lake. Of course with such a hot and prologued summer they have grown in number and nuisance level. We are unfortunately unable to drain and net the lake to eradicate them as with drought conditions in place it is not allowed legally to do so.
We have therefore asked during this summer for anglers who do catch them to put them in the keep nets provided. So we can in fact ,remove some of them at least, rather than putting them back in the lake for the next anglers to catch. We understand It is not 'The' solution, and over the course of this coming winter season we plan to trap the vast majority out. When permission is finally allowed we will drain down levels and net thoroughly.
Those anglers who have fished appropriately have done well, fishing through the poisson chat to get to the carp. Whilst we have given sound advice to all, it is always up to each and every angler regarding how they choose to fish.
The lake advises
- Do not use fresh sweetcorn & groundbait - you will exacerbate any issue.
- We recommends use of hardened 22mm boilies, with armourmesh or shrinkwrap.
- Use larger hooks (yes ,you will still catch!)
- Heavier leads.
- Make use of Tiger nuts (always available on site) and plastic corn.
