Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Scopex pop ups on a spinner rig, size 4. Hand sharpened hooks and plenty of free offerings. The fish here like a good feed. I enjoyed catching from the margins, something that is often overlooked in Carp fishing, especially in France.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Yes, the venue was spotless. The accommodation is very close to the lake and well equipped with everything needed. I had food supplied and the standard and presentation was honestly restaurant standard, Louise asked before my visit what I did and did not like and made meals to suit. The portion sizes were great. Nothing at all was too much trouble for Ryan or Louise.

General Comments:

The venue was nice and quiet, also very peaceful. Fishing was excellent, I fished for 5 days and had a total of 18 fish. I didn't fish at night as I was having a holiday at the same time and decided to not spend the nights fishing.

Details of your catches:

All 3 of us produced a good number of fish ranging from mid 20's to 2 x 39lb mirrors. And 2 new PB's for my partner and daughter.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

All 3 of us enjoy fishing and couldn't wait to get the rods in the water. The lake has plenty of underwater features which Ryan guided us to with great precision, gravel bars, hard spots, the sunken oak stump and overhanging willows to name a few. The majority of the bottom is smooth and snag free making it a great lake for all fishing abilities. I used the lake boilies and pellets and Ryan prepared the maize and parti mix for us on site which saved us bringing it over in our van and assured the bait was fresh for the whole time we were there. All i needed to take was my own preference of hook bait. We found that the fish preferred a good scattering of bait rather than small baited areas. This drew the fish in to great effect. The rig we found to be most affective was a simple long hair rig fished hard on the bottom. 20mm boilie topped with a 10mm or piece of corn.

Were the facilities what you expected?

The fishing lodge was fantastic and larger than I expected. The kitchen is spacious and fully equipped to cater for the largest of groups. A large dining table and cosy seating area with TV and the log burner made it very nice for chilling out. Plus being able to bivvy up and fish in front of the lodge was ideal if the girls wanted a night off from fishing and a comfy bed. I could stay out fishing only 20m away. Being able to bbq out the front, watch the sunset over the lake, enjoy the dark skies and look at the stars and milkyway really is an amazing experience.

We took advantage of the food package that was on offer and we didn't regret it! Lou's food was amazing. Beautiful, fresh home cooked meals with a few glasses of red on the bank really made the difference to our holiday.

General Comments:

Me, my partner and daughter visited Mystique Lake for a 2 week holiday. We all fell in love with the place instantly. My partner enjoys nature photography and the lake and surrounding fields has an abundance of wildlife from birds and red squirrels to the deer appearing at dawn and dusk. We took a break from fishing for a day or two and visited the surrounding area. There is an English pub a 15 minute walk down the road that does good food and has a nice atmosphere. We visited a few of the medieval towns and markets and the supermarket is only 20 minutes away from the lake so stocking up wasn't a problem at all. All in all it was our best French fishing trip to date. Ryan and Lou were the perfect hosts, we have booked to go back again this year. The whole experience is one we all enjoyed very much and can't wait to get back there.
