General Comments:

I knew it would be a tricky week being the only one on. The owner and family were friendly and helpful although I only saw them 3 times the whole week. They aren't on site and if I'd had an accident it could have been a major problem. With the water so low some swims were dangerous. Getting a big fish up the bank on my own safely would have been a problem. A 30 was bad enough. The owner could easily have been around doing work on the venue during the day.
I had 5 false runs in the week. The owner said his carp were very wise (they aren't) and pick the baits up in their lips (they don't) so you pull the bait out their mouths. What is more likely is that a fish is trailing a lead around. Don't feel you have to fish size 8s that the owner recommends. I used my std 1/0 to catch. Just fish however you feel confident. Carp are just carp where ever they are.
I would have gone back but I didn't feel very valued as a customer. The lack of visits, and certainly not coming on the last evening or morning to say thank you and good bye was really poor. At a time when waters are desperate for customers you need to go the extra mile.

However, I do disagree with your dismissal of the fishing advice provided. The advice we shared draws on 18 years of running the lake and helping thousands of visiting anglers catch fish. Guests in the weeks before your visit also enjoyed good catches following that guidance, giving us every confidence in the advice we offer. You are, of course, free to use the hooks and methods you feel confident with. Catching on a different hook size does not make the recommended approach wrong, just as a missed run does not establish exactly what happened beneath the surface.

The unusually low water level was a consequence of the severe drought we have experienced, which was beyond our control. I recognise that this made access and landing fish more difficult, particularly when fishing alone.

Regarding your departure, you left at 7 a.m., and I wasn’t able to see you off before you left. Please don’t interpret the absence of a personal goodbye as a lack of appreciation for your custom. I understand that you would also have appreciated more visits during the week.

We welcome honest feedback, including criticism. Equally, it is fair to distinguish between a disappointing fishing week and a factual assessment of the lake or the advice offered.

Our group caught 30 fish total, a lot of commons/mirrors and the occasional grass, leather and ghost

Owners recommendation of hiding the hook as much as possible, putting corn and maze around the hook.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Yes and more, 2 cabins one having toilet and shower the second having a chill area with pool table and dartboard if you ever want to come away from sitting at your swim, kitchenette and a second toilet and shower
