Details of your catches:

Only 2 Carp caught during the week and 1 trailing line including an inline lead which couldn’t be ejected as the wrong sized swivel was being used. Both fish caught in pretty poor condition with mouth damage. Disappointing.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

Had to change over to Tigernuts on some rods to combat the Crays which were very active. One fish fell to this method.
Other fish took a plastic boilie in a pva bag.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Perfectly adequate. Hot water for the shower is all we really needed and it was plentiful. I knew the facilities were a short drive away (3/4 minutes) when I booked so this wasn’t a problem. Could do with some hooks to hang wet clothes up and this improvement would only cost a couple of euros. Window in the shower isn’t frosted glass which didn’t bother me but think I might have startled the lady jogger who went past when I was in!

Were you happy with them?

Yes. Like I say some hooks and possibly a chair would improve it at hardly any cost.

Would you recommend the venue to a friend?

No. Out of all the venues I’ve visited from Angling Lines this wasn’t one of my favourites.

Would you recommend the services to a friend?

Yes. Returning customer for many years.

General Comments:

Although the fishing was poor while there I understand this can happen at any venue so it isn’t a grumble about the quality of the fishing as I’ve seen some of the fish previously caught.
I just feel that the lake is perhaps still trading on its past glories. Very expensive in my opinion. When I’ve paid the money that I paid to go here in the past I’ve had exclusive lake and accommodation on site such as Vincons/Forest Lodge etc. Here you’ve got exclusive lake and facilities a short drive away. Too pricey. I could fish a lake such as Brocard with fishing of the same quality, same quality scenery and it’d be half of the price that Boux costs.
Having said all this I did enjoy my time here. The scenery was lovely with corn fields as far as the eye could see and with the cattle regularly visiting the lake to drink. Lovely setting.
I didn’t find the path as bad as I’d read about and barrowed to the wood bank with no major difficulties. I then moved swims to the dam wall midweek as fish were showing close in to there at short distance.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

All the fish were preoccupied on the previous anglers bait, not once during our week did the fish feed on our baited areas. This made it difficult to catch fish in numbers. We resorted to placing our baits to showing fish, or when there was no ripple/wind on the water you could quite clearly see fish feeding. Once the fish were located it really didn't matter what you put in front of them.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Yes... more than adequate. Please see the below comments with regard to the wooded bank swims...

Were you happy with them?

Our party consisted of four anglers, this meant we had to fish the wooded bank side. I would suggest this is improved asap, even though we are all experienced carp anglers we struggled with this neglected bank, especially with the water level so low. It would appear this bank has been ignored for decades and is now in serious need of work, not only for the safety of the anglers but the wellbeing of such precious fish. If this work is not carried out soon there should be a rule that all fish caught on this side of the lake are photographed in the water... as we did with the 63lb common.

Would you recommend the venue to a friend?

Only once the wooded bank has been improved.

Would you recommend the services to a friend?

Yes

General Comments:

See the above comments with regard to the wooded bank swims... please note, I can not express how urgent this bank is in need of improvement, on several occasions, members of our party slipped climbing up and down this bank... there is a serious accident waiting to happen at this lake!

*Angling Lines note* Thank you for your feedback, work is organised to be carried out on the wooded bank this winter. We do understand that the low water levels this summer have made the work even more necessary.

Details of your catches:

55 Carp in total (2x50lb, 12x 40lb, 18x30lb, 23x20lb)

Jason Salter = C55lb, M45lb, C43lb, M42lb 8oz, C41lb 8oz, M40lb 8oz, M40lb 8oz, 12 x 30lb to 39lb 8oz, 11 x 20lb to 27lb 10oz.

Chris Powell = M50lb 8oz, M46lb 14oz, C45lb 2oz, M44lb 12oz, M44lb, 6 x 20lb to 29lb 8oz.

Nicholas Powell = M47lb, 4 x 30lb to 39lb 12oz, 4 x 20lb to 29lb 8oz.

Andy David = C42lb, 2 x 30lb to 36lb 4oz, 2 x 20lb to 28lb 8oz.

Your best tactics/bait/rigs:

1. Baited areas of boilies and tigernut within casting range.
2. Bait Boats to the far margins.
3. Odd fish on solid PVA bags.

Were the facilities what you expected?

Yes, we knew what we were getting from the excellent video review in July.
You have to use your car to get to the farm buildings where the shower, freezer and fridge are - But these are very good and clean.
The compost toilet near the lake car park is fine for everyday use, just leave the door open to stop the smell from being overpowering :)

Were you happy with them?

Yes, they were everything that you require for a drive and survive venue.
If you could park behind your swims, the lake would be up there with the best of them.
The track is a bit rough and bumpy, but we coped fine with it - barrowing our gear to the wooded pegs bank.

Would you recommend the venue to a friend?

Yes, I think we may come back for another go soon.

Would you recommend the services to a friend?

Angling lines have been excellent communicators every time I have dealt with them, quickly sorting out any issues that arose during the run up to getting to the lake.

General Comments:

All four of us fished the wooded bank pegs.
Unlike the previous group, we found no real issues with the weed. There was a pretty thin bank of weed along the length of the lake around 60yds out, with odd small patches around the lake.
The fish came easily through this weed with a tight line and we only dropped a fish or 2 each during the week - More due to barbless hooks than the weed.
The small pike were more of an issue, grabbing baits on the retrieve and swimming into your lines mid-water - I had to respool twice during the week.
